The Savage is Ready to Roar

'Ol son in law can't make it up to go deer hunting, I think the wife put the kibosh on it. They are Atlanta yuppies, what do you expect.
So, bad knee or not it falls on my shoulders to get venison this year.
I literally dusted off the fierce Savage muzzleloader.
I made 3 practice shots all last year, and one in the woods. A 200 pound 8 pointer fell dead. I am cranking out 3,100 foot pounds with a 250 SST.
With my knee I can't make it to the range, but I do baby that scope and I figured the rifle would be on.
When I killed the 8 pointer a year ago I immediately reloaded, and haven't touched the rifle since. The rifle has not been cleaned in 3 years.
Off my porch, I only have a 42 yard shot, but that is good enough, as the longest shot from my stand is just 75 yards.
I gimped down to my target tree with my crutch and target in the left hand and machete in the right. I had to clear out some brush.
I already have the rifle sighted in at 200, thus it is 1/2 inch high at 42 yards.
First shot, 1/2 high and 1/2 to the left. Yowsuh!
I waited ten minutes for the barrel to cool and took another shot. Dead on windage, 1/2 inch high. It was touching the first shot.
That's good enough for me and bad news for Buckie or Bambi.

It is a wonderful thing to have a muzzleloader that is that accurate and powerful, and that you don't have to clean when you shoot.
That SST hits the deer like the Hammer of Thor!
I love the Savage.

ps I have a Sightron S2 3-9 scope, that is one great scope.
I will give the vanilla extract a try this year, just the kind of wacky deerhunting trick that appeals to me. It is cheap and you can get it at the grocery store.
Probably can go to WalMart and find Tink's Number 7 Vanilla Deer Scent for $15, same thing in a different bottle.

Man BUD... You cannot make it to the range but gonna hit the woods? you are cruisin' fer a bruisin'! Be careful. Maybe a neoprene "hinged knee sleeve" from the sporting goods dept. will help a bit. It may keep it warm and the plastic hinge bars may offer a bit of support but most of all it will keep the knee warmer thus not as stiff as it is not so mobile if it is cold and you torque it at all it is gonna be worse than if it were warmer.

See, I am having knee replacement surgery Nov 10.
This gives me 33 days to rehab, before the season ends.
If I am not a whole lot better by Dec 13 the deer catch a break for this year.

I forgot about your upcoming surgery... well a knee sleeve may still be of help. If nothing else, like a back "brace" it is mainly to remind you to be careful.
