The sadness thread - what great auto deals have you walked away from lately?

So, we often talk on this forum about our latest, greatest acquisition, but we never talk about that tragedy that befalls every gun collector and shooter - having to walk away from something great for whatever reason.

If I'm known for anything on this forum, it's being a Beretta fanboy. For a long time, the stainless Beretta Cheetah has been a holy grail gun. Online they go for $650-800 depending on condition. Today at a gun show, I found one, an 84FS model, in absolutely cherry condition, for $475. I checked it out closely and everything was perfect.

My reason for walking away was that I currently have a Smith & Wesson 642 J-Frame on layaway and my 2014 gun budget is all spoken for. It was incredibly hard and I am already regretting walking.

What did you walk away from lately?

OMG! There are several that are extremely painful that I have to pass on. I sorely would love to get a P-38. They are drying up for reasonable prices at the surplus shops. I know I probably won't get another chance at the Beretta 92s or the surplus Browning Hi-Powers any more either. Just have a plan to get a 10mm Witness Elite Match in a month and then concentrate on long guns for a while.

Wow, that is just like me except I haven't walked away yet.
I put a deposit on an 84F cheetah blue although my preferred is like you, the stainless. One of my dream guns. Anyway, I did put it on hold and then found a S&W model 624 .44 special on a different FFL which I also put a deposit on.

Now it has become a 84F or model 624. Trying to manage both but I think if it comes down to one, it will be the 624. Not because I like it better, but because its a better deal.

$449.00 for the Cheetah with 1 mag no box or papers or $550 for the 624 with no box or papers.

Recently failed to take with me a base model Sig Trailside at $400. Was the shorter barrel, fixed sight, black plastic grips model - but it was all original with box, test target, papers, basically NOS.

$400 may not have been a steal, but it was a buy price.

I'm almost religiously focused on buying out-of-production pistols and revolvers these days -- well, except for a couple of the new Wilson Combat Berettas, but at least those are limited-production :) -- and I'm not even a big polymer pistol fan, but I have a feeling I'm going to regret passing up the current rebates/discounts on the Beretta PX4 and certain pistols in the HK lineup (a P30L and HK45 are the ones I'd be interested in). I might end up caving into temptation, but I'm trying to resist.

I feel the P38 pain myself. My local Cabela's has about 10 of them in the gun library, and 10% off used guns right now. They have a few nice AC P38's for $475-$500.

I don't feel too horrible though. About 3 months ago, I picked up a Spreewerke CYQ P38 for $600. It is numbers matching, in excellent condition. At least I have one.........:) Still, they're hard for me to pass up at $500.

My LGS had a box stock 70's era Hi-Power in mint condition for $600. He offered me a 5% discount and I still walked away. The following week it was gone. I then spotted a Sig P239 for $400, that one didn't get away.

Not gun related but I offered $31K for a 1972 cuda 440 6 pack 4 spd car, the gentleman wanted $33K which was an awesome price but I figured give 31K a shot if he said no I would jut give him the 33K.. Well he said "let me think about it" I called the next day to see what he had to say and he said he sold it that morning to another gentleman who offered him more than he wanted if he would hold it for a couple days until he could fly in to pick it up...

He told me if that guy didn't show I could have it for $32K, but of course that guy showed up and bought it for $33,500...

Since I was still looking for a cuda, I seen the car about 3 weeks later on ebay for $48K Buy it now, and it sold after about 3 days...

As if I didn't feel bad enough about losing the car ebay had to rub it in my face. Now I haven't found one that lives up to that one so I haven't been able to pull the trigger on one since...

About a month my lgs had a nickel plated dick special in mint condition on consignment for $475 I passed it up just because I didn't have the cash and cringe at the thought of credit card debt. Couldn't get it off my mind and when I went back to buy it, it was sold.:( Sorry for it not being an autoloader I'm going to have the same problem if I spot a nice Colt commander though.

Riflemen, where are you located? There's a HUGE car show/sale in Daytona Beach this Thanksgiving weekend, Thursday to Sunday. I usually see Cudas available there.

Keeping sort of on thread - one I did NOT walk away from - CZ P 07 at @400, out the door, yesterday ( the earlier model ). I'm still kicking myself over not going after a decent Single Six that I saw at a gun show a few months ago for $250 - yes, I'm more of a wheel gun guy, but that CZ just fits me soooo nicely.....

Steelbird, I am located in New england, just got back from maine so my wife won't want to hear florida after the holiday, lol..

I have had my eyes out for a cuda, just waiting for the right one, which I happened to pass up on, lol...

I had to let a near perfect CZ 75 (pre import markings 1991) go by this week on a Facebook BST sight, the guy started our at 450 and dropped to 400 before getting someone to pick it up.

I was crying the blues, but I'd just spend 1500 bucks on Kayaks for Christmas...I'm tapped out. Got to drum up some side jobs now to replace that MAD money, and get me back into the "If I see some smoking hot deal, I can make a move" game.

I don't find good deals... to be honest I find garbage deals... I made my first decent deal yesterday but still could have probably done better if I had more time and patience on my hands... I guess that means I don't have to have a sad story for the sadness thread.

I don't walk away from good gun deals. If/when I find one, I buy it. Good gun deals are hard to find and don't come your way often - and that's probably a good thing in my case.:D

-LNIB Sig P227 SAS $650 -didn't really love the pistol but a good price.

-Good-VG condition German P226 triple serial #s date code 1900 IIRC with 6 mags 4 of them 10 rounders :( $529

-Good S&W 36 no dash would rate it 7 out of 10 $300.

Passed on some good GB auctions as well.

-MKIII Browning HI Power LNIB $540 with free shipping + $20 transfer on GB

-CZ 75 B tutone on GB $375+ shipping and transfer

-Steyr L-A1 9mm NIB on GB $375 + shipping & transfer

Thinking of GB auctions, I recently passed on a very nice SIG P210-6 with a BIN price of $2,200, which is an uncommonly good price. Not sure what I was thinking. I already have a pair of -6 regular frame models, but I could have flipped it for $500 easily, and probably a fair amount more.

When I went back to buy it, someone had already snagged, unsurprisingly. It was up on GB for less than 24 hours.

AIM had surplus Belgian Hi-Powers for mid $300s. Really wanted to snag one but I needed to devote my fun tickets to finishing my GF's AR (x-mas present). Now, go figure...they're gone.
