The S&W Shield in .45acp

Don't know the specs, but my pm45 is borderline unpleasant to shoot. Carries like a dream, kicks like a mule.

Can't imagine the shield .45 is much bigger.

Got an XDS in .45 so I've got it covered. It's actually is not that bad to shoot. Definitely not a day at the range gun though. Pure physics - any small and light weight pistol in .45 cal is going to be somewhat of a handful to shoot. I don't see how a Shield in .45 would be any different. Regardless, I'll bet it'll be quite popular. I enjoy my Shield in 9mm. A fine little carry gun.:)

I still have six more pistols to add to my collection, debating on which 45 i'm going to buy Kimber Custom II 45ACP ,M&P 45 ACP,& Glock41 Gen4 45ACP. Only one will I buy.

I owned a Kahr CW 45 a few years back that was just too finicky to keep as an EDC. Dimensionally, the new S&W Shield .45 is about the same size and weight as that Kahr. The one pleasant surprise for me about that Kahr was the mild perceived recoil. It was enjoyable to shoot at the range. It can be done and I suspect the design team at S&W may have been able to pull off something similar with their newest offering.

I think success has gone to their heads and S&W is over-reaching .
How do you figure? The 9mm Shield is so popular that gun stores in my area have trouble keeping them in stock; the .40 S&W models are a little slower-moving, but that goes for all .40's of late, even the relatively popular ones.

I think it will sell well to .45acp fans.
Heartily agreed. It's no 1911, but then it's likely to be much lower-priced than any 1911-type pistol of comparable size and weight, so I have a hunch that many .45 shooters will happily live with the polymer frame and long trigger. :)

Rifleman1952, I completely agree as that was my experience with as well. the Kahr PM45 was a great shooting little gun, when it wanted to be.

I'm looking forward to it. I've owned all sizes of the M&P in 9mm and never found the accuracy to be all that impressive. Trigger upgrades, 7 different brands of ammo in 3 different weights didn't help. On the other hand my bone stock M&Ps in 45acp are nail drivers. I eventually dropped in Apex sears (no springs or triggers) and rounded/polished the striker blocks myself just to make them even better.

I've also owned about 30 45acp handguns from multiple brands and the M&Ps are the softest shooting of the bunch. I would bet that the Shield will be the softest shooting 45acp carry gun in it's class. Add the more aggressive grip texture that covers more of the grip and I don't think it will be a problem at all for those that have no problem shooting 45acp handguns.
