The Rough Riders, Good gun movie.

Just saw this last night, thought I would add it to the list of good gun movies. Lots of Krags, Mausers, Maxims, and even Potato Diggers. Even some knowledgable gun talk. Plus it was just a good enjoyable movie.

Also--Eli (Geoffrey Lewis), with the side by side 12 gauge, and the Hotchkiss 1 1/2 pounder revolving cannon and the Krupp guns; excellent! Tom Berenger portayal of old "Teethador" was great. Sam Elliot as "Bucky Neal"--great! Giving the devil his due, Ted Turner can turn out a decent flick.

John Milius makes a great movie, and judging from the TR statue in RED DAWN, the theme of The Wind and the Lion, and Rough Riders, he is a big TR fan.

He is way progun, and I still laugh when I recall some Lib parents group somberly declaring RED DAWN "the most violent movie ever made."...Could it have been the overt references to the evils of gun control and the theme of self reliance and self protection????

Correia. Milius did not do Tombstone. A George P. Comatos did. (Never heard of him.) Just got this of the jacket of the video.

Comatas' most famous film was Rambo: First Blood part 2, though he trotted out Sly and firearms again for Cobra.

His best movie (George, that is) was Of Unknown Origin, an early eighties adaption of a neat horror novel.

"The Wind and the Lion" rocked! The scene with the Marines in their dress blues double-timing it in formation and then volley-firing into the bad guys was too cool.

Bruegger:

I had never seen "The Wind and the Lion," but on your recommendation I rented it last night. Two thumbs up! That Captain hacking into the palace with his Mameluke sword in one hand and his revolver in the other was awesome. And the double-timing through the streets was very cool. Thanks for the heads up.

Jarhead out.
