The reason I passed on the Beretta Nano

I posted this same reply to another post but am not sure if my worries are well founded but in my thought process this worries me. The reason I passed on the Nano is to me a big deal and if I am wrong someone please correct me and tell me a way I am not seeing. The reason I passed is the same reason it is so sleek. No external controls. If I am in a situation where it is SHTF and I need to protect myself or my family and I am wounded and have been shot or injured and I can only use 1 of my arms. I can change mags one handed but for me to get that pistol back functional as it is designed I need the use of both of my hands to grip that pistol, grab that slide, and release that slide for the pistol to return to full battery. if I am in a SHTF situation I do not want to have that possibility even enter my thought process. Just the way I look at it...

Have you ever heard of racking the slide by snagging the rear sight on your belt, boot or even pants? Try practicing it. You may impress yourself

It did cross my mind but it didnt look to me to seem to have enough rear site for that to me. I prefer a external slide release. Good point though.

You could find a 9mm Norinco M77. You can cock it with one hand by pulling on the front of the trigger guard. Like a Lignose pistol

Obligatory BUG?

Not to be negative on such a special Memorial Day weekend (THANKS to our VETS!), but I will be honest by saying that I am a subscriber to Murphy's Law (literally). I always hope for the best but realize that the worst can happen (not always to other people like we wish to believe--'DENIAL ain't just a river in Africa' ;)). So I carry a Beretta 21A in my pocket--I mean, really, is that too inconvenient for something that could very well preserve life if your primary gun fails or you are incapacitated and unable to cycle your primary etc...?

-Cheers

I can't possible make all my purchases based on SHTF potential. For me if I did that It would take the fun out of the hobby and make it more of a chore.

I am 99.9% sure that 99.9% of all bullets I fire will be done for fun. For the 0.01% chance that I find myself in the situation you describe I have plenty of weapons that I can use

Please do not take offense, but my advise would be to loosen up a little and enjoy your guns

Place your thumb in the trigger well and use your next two fingers to pull the slide reaward. Then release while attempting not to blow your own brains out. Of course, if you are this bad off it might be your best move.

Is there a reason this should not of been posted under the semi-auto pistol category of the Forum?

Apologies TennJedd,

I am guilty of a well known, admitted and unfortunate brain-fart!

Sorry (I deleted my idiodic post prior to referring back to the OP).

-Cheers

TennJed,

So to be sure and according to your logic/advice if one carries a BUG, they need to "loosen up"
so that we will then be able to "enjoy our guns?"

My little 21A in my pocket means I'm wound too tight?

I believe I understand the implications of you comments but do not wish to make any suppositions--Perhaps I misinterpreted...?

No I think you misunderstood or maybe I misunderstood the OP. A BUG is a wise thing to have and the Bobcat with the tip up barrel makes a darn near perfect BUG gun, but was the OP looking for the Nano as a BUG. Why buy a large .22lr for anything but a plinker? I took it to mean that he was not getting it in case he found himself in a SHTF senario with it.

....EDIT....AS I READ MY POST I MADE THE ERROR OF CONFUSING THE NANO WITH THE NEOS. SORRY FOR THE ERROR. I CAN ABSOLUTELY SEE YOUR CONCERNS WITH A POCKET 9MM......

I do not base all my guns on a SHTF situation but I do place some. That is one reason I own firearms. I hope I go my entire life without anything that terrible happening but in the event that it does I want to be as well protected as I can be. Thats why I look around, thats why the guns I choose to carry are never impulse buys. To me being a creature of habit have spent 97% of my time firing handguns knowing there is a slide release there. I have practiced one hand mag changes and when I did I dropped the slide with the release mechanism. So in a stressful situation being a creature of habit I dont want to be thumbing for a slide release and it not be there. There have been people killed that forgot their safety was onso who is to say in that situation I would remember something that I am not so accustomed to.

Many factors play into me only being able to carry a primary carry pistol. I try to do as much research and reading I can both factory and personal experiences from owners of the peticular platform I am considering. If at all possible I try to rent and shoot one for myself. Thats why I say the Nano left something to be desired by me and the reason I had passed on buying one. I was more curious as to whether others had been concerned by this lack of external controls. I do not want a safety of any kind but like I said me being a creature of habit and so used to that being there as an option it was just one more thing that might not click. Yes I know that it is more then possible for me to get use to more training to adjust for it or for the lack of it. This is one of the same reasons I have only owned 1 1911 pistol in my life. I am so used to DA/SA and DAO auto loaders and revolvers that I dont want to have to get use to a single action platform that has a safety I have to thumb down or my pistol wont work. I do enjoy shooting as a sport and hobby and I will never let the possibility of me in a .0001% situation have to use one of my firearms for defense ruin that. Just my thoughts on it it seems...

The only problem I see with the Nano is that the bore axis just looks really high to me. I know "It's only a 9" but it seems to be asking for muzzle flip.
