The Re-education of Amerika is complete!!

Back-to-back stories on the news tonight have led me to this conclusion. I knew it was so but I guess I just needed confirmation. No concentration camps were needed, no 24 hour-a-day propaganda film loops, no mind altering drugs ... just a corrupt administration, a politically aligned media and eight years.

The evidence?

A jury in Florida has recommended to the Judge, who will ultimately decide the case, that several big tobacco companies pay many billions (that's right, BILLIONS) of dollars to people who got sick from smoking. Obviously these smokers, from another galaxy where they didn't know smoking was bad for you, are not personally responsible for their own decision to smoke and must be paid for their pain and suffering. One profiled "victim" had throat cancer after smoking for 40 years!!! Imagine that??!! Just for your information, I used to smoke and I quit many years ago - I must be immune to the allure of the advertising and the absolute addiction to the enhanced levels of nicotine.

The second revelation was the decision of the jury, in the wrongful death case accusing the Government of causing the deaths of many innocent Americans (including women and children) at Waco, that the Government was not at fault. I suppose those kids and their Moms would have died even if the ATF and FBI had not laid seige to a private dwelling with assault aircraft, tanks, CS gas, automatic weapons and incendiary munitions - to serve a simple warrant on suspected weapons violations!

I want to puke!

Greed it is all about greed, the individuals want the money the lawyers want the money and the government wants the money.

By the way this is my first post here, I have been lurking for a while and have found this a nice place to visit. I post on GT under the same user name.

I am suprised there are not more post on this, I do feel this is a large neon sign
saying the dumbing down of america is
complete. It would be frighting to walk in
to a court room today and expect a (fair)
trial.The schools/television have changed
history, morals, lifestyles that people
cannot or will not think for themselves.
We are walking the same path of other countries that in the end came to a bad ending, its all there, government power
(mis-use) victim type society, etc.
yes, it is sad.!!

Welcome to TFL L-Frame. You'll certainly like it here!

Mikey, you're as right as can be, but I think it took more than eight years. Our nation is more and more dumbed down every day, so we each have to do our part. Computers, TV, PlayStations, and things of the sort need to have a good hard boot-heel placed strategically into them. Other ways I try to help, is to teach a cashier how to make change when the computer goes out; I eat out quite a bit. So far I haven't run into one that actually CAN make change w/o the 'Tron God'.
BTW, there ain't no such thing as addiction; it's just some dummy that don't want to quit! (And yes, I tell that to my best friend on a nagging basis - damn hard-headed indian).

Bullet44,

There's nothing new here. And anything else that we might say could lead to incrimination...

I started smoking, Camels, at age 13, before Joe Camel appeared in the US.

I stopped smoking at age 18 for a while and started again. Camels.

I stopped smoking for a few years in my 20's and then started again, Camels.

Got stationed in Europe and saw the creature that was to become Joe Camel soon in the US. I stopped smoking. Few years laters, I started again.

Stopped again a few years ago. Maybe I'll start again, maybe I won't.

Am I an addict? Yes, probably. Why is it I can't stop? well, I have stopped. I'm "stopped" now. Something must be wrong with the way RJ Reynolds manipulates the nicotine
levels, because when I stop, I stop. Just like that. One day I smoke a pack and half, and the next day never finish that half, and it gets old and dried out and I throw it away and don't buy another one.

I remember TV ads for cigarettes, so I've been alive longer than some of the plaintiffs in this lawsuit. At no point in my life did I *NOT* think that cigarettes are bad for one's health.

What utter crap.

Dog3, I'm also in the same self-made boat. But I like smoking. Nevertheless, I'll wager that _none_ of that money reaches those who are ill from smoking. It will be spent on all sorts of legislative boondoggles that have nothing to do with smoking, just as all of the other lawsuit money has. But they nailed "big tobacco." It seems they want to nail "big oil." Next will be "big guns." Then "Big Macs." This is classic fascism.

L-Frame....welcome. My .357 and .44 snubbies took note of your handle and approved. J and K frames just snorted at the upstart.

The dumbing down of america started around the turn of the last century. Big brother and revisionist history started back in Lincoln's time.

I remember RADIO cigarette ads, we watched radio before the telly. In most cases it worked better too. Kinda cool the way a 15 minute news program would give the news and no pap. Now a two hour telly news program gives less news.

Nikita Khrushchev predicted confidently in a speech in Bucharest, Rumania on June 19, 1962 that: " The United States will eventually fly the Communist Red Flag...the American people will hoist it themselves."
