The perfect safe

Elsewhere, an OP asked about a good safe, but he's only trying to secure one gun ... I have a bunch more than that, but I have no long guns, so I don't need one of those towers with just one or two shelves ... does anybody know of a safe in the 4-foot-tall range designed just for the safe storage of handguns and ammo (and my wife's priceless collection of jewelry :) Suggestions?

To me, 99 percent of the safe doing its job is in placement.

Put it somewhere hidden or out of the way. Concealment goes a long way.

Consider placing it in areas that would be difficult to work in with tools.

I just bought a two cu ft electronic safe from Lowes. Yup, the fix yur home folks. They had one that originally sold for $300 but is on clearance and I got it for half that. I've only got handguns and, I'm not too concerned about bullets shootin around the room. I just have little fingers that I want to keep away from them and this fits the bill very nicely. Check your local Lowes and see if they've got anything. Of course, it's not certified for firearms so, you might want to keep some damp rid in it or something, just to keep the humidity down.
