In reading the latest shotgun news i found 3 items to make your AR15 more PC:

1) DPMS now has a single shot lower receiver.

2) Sporting Conversions has a mag catch that requires a tool to remove the magazine for 30 bucks.

quote:
Sporting Conversions, Inc. develops modifications that seek to make military-style
semi-automatic rifles more suited for sporting purposes. Legislations has limited -and
will continue to limit- the ownership and use of semi-automatic rifles. Military-style
semi-automatic rifles have been the object of legislation thus far. Undoubtedly, the
legislation will not end there!

Range-Maglok replaces the magazine detachment feature of AR-style rifles. This
removable fastening device can be installed or removed in minutes. Installed, the
magazine is LOCKED in place, and can only be removed with a tool. Now whether on
the range or in the field, the magazine cannot drop from the rifle accidentally.

The kit contains two specially machined parts plus the standard
installation/removal tool, and is only $29.95 plus shipping
(NY state residents add 7% sales tax).

Also available is the deluxe comfort-grip installation/removal tool,
with Blaze-Brite plastic handle. Makes locking or unlocking the magazine a breeze!
The Blaze-Brite handle guarantees you'll never lose it, either in the field or
on the range. Add it to your order for only $12.95
3) Pro-Grips has a non pistol grip
that attaches under the stock horizontally

most of the ad discusses CA SB23 protrution
(to bad for them, the AR15 series was added to the 89 legislation)

Why are so many so eager to go gently into that good night? Keep complying and I'm sure they'll throw you in last. At least you'll have the satisfaction of saying you were one of the "good guys" who jumped through all the hoops.

(This isn't aimed at the topic poster or anyone in perticular, it's just a general observation.)

The only PC AR-15...

14.5" barrel

Selective-fire

Flash-hider, bayonet lug, collapsable stock, removable carry handle... Suppressor, and passive night sight...

Ok that is the best PC AR-15... Every single adult should have one in there house, with 1440 rounds of SS-109 ammo in 30 round mags ready to.

Dead [Black Ops]

Dead,

I have TWO SS/synthetic Mini-14's w/red-dot scopes and flash supressors, 10 ea 30 rd mags, 4 ea 40 rd mags, 2500 rds of "standard" .223, and 2000 rds of SS109's.

Can I play too?

Gee, I feel left out. The only thing I have is an SKS with bayonet lug, bayonet, flash suppressor, pistol grip, folding stock, four 30rd mags and one 75rd drum, a shoulder strap and the reciever to make it selective fire but it (the reciever) just sits in a box somewhere. Hey, I wonder if I should go to kalifornia for the day.. *grin*.

What are SS109's?

No idea, John. All I know is that my ammo has purty green tips, and is made by some company called NATO. ;)

Sorry John, the "Sheepishgrin" threw me. I thought you where being sarcastic. As Dennis said, SS109 is the NATO designation for steel core ammo, designed to penetrate thin steel plate - usually 3 - 4 mm at around 500 meters.

a post on the AR15 list just said that the BATF does not consider a tool operated mag catch as a pass on the detachable magazine SAW requirement.

The mag would have to be welded into the lower to qualify...

SS109: Steel-cored "armor piercing" (yeah, right, in a .223) ammunition. Military issue.

Oh,, and I have 1000 rds of .223 tracer too....

A friend of mine told me of an aftermarket bolt group that converts the rifle to .22 rimfire. Calif. DOJ states that this is quite legal and removes the rifle from the status of being an assault rifle as the law specifically states that the rifles covered are center-fire. The CA legislature is incensed that there is still one more "loophole" in the law. Guess they will be adding rimfires next.

Get ready to register that "evil" Ruger 10-22 "assault weapon"!

My wife and I have matched pre-ban ARs, hers anodized purple (just to freak people out), with over 50 mags, 2 sealed cases of ammo, and spare parts. hers is 16", and I have a spare shorty stock to go with my lower if I need to carry light.
That and matched .45 ACPs and Remington 870s (hers in 20 gauge) is our emergency armory. The rest are just bonus prizes. Building one my daughter can have in 10 years, at age 13, and screw the law.

I don't know how to build an AR-15/M-16 from all the various parts and brands out there; and I don't have the money to buy one.

So I guess I'll have to "make do" with my ole Garand. ;)

Gusgus and Dennis O., thanks for the education! Is that stuff still available? And is it the real solid core and not just the "penetrator tip"?

John. Yes it *IS* the "real thing". Mostly available in "roll your own", but you CAN get some ready-made from various dealers. (www.cascade-ammo.com gets/got it in periodically.)

I bought the bullets ($80/1000) and had a buddy load them to mil-spec.

Someone simply needs to market a good thumbhole stock for the AR. This helps you become a good little citizen without loosing any real combat utility.
(I actualy like the look of thumbhole stocks)

Anyone have a pic of an AR with such a mod?

The BATF says the thumbhole is not considered to lack a pistol grip

quote:
It was previously

of the stock configuration.
http://www.jpar15.com/customer.htm

here is a nice stock:

Isn't it amazing how the BATF can have it both ways!? If I add a thumbhole stock to my AR, it STILL is considered to have a pistol grip, BUT, if I replace the thumbhole stock on my AK with a pistol grip, I just made an illegal weapon. So, a thumbhole stock is a pistol grip, but it's not a pistol grip, depending on the rifle it's installed on? Is anyone else a little confused? Oh, I get it! The wording of law doesn't mean a thing! It's how the ruling elite decide to interrupt the law, at any given point in time, that is the real law! Now I understand

That is the best looking AR I have ever seen!

ATF is having it both ways now huh?

I had no idea. I don't know what to say about that.
