Master Riflesmith Don McCoy passed away at 4:am tuesday morning. He was 92 years old. Among many othere accomplishments, he'd been building highly sought after fine competition M1 rifles for the Navy Shooting Team and other High Masters Long Range Competition shooters since the 6o's.
I was fortunate enough to receive one of his only three triple pillared single shot High Masters M1 Garands just last May. I was also fortunate enough to speak with him at that time. I was surprised when the rifle arrived with a DVD video of Mr. McCoy discussing the fine points of my rifle with the videographer.
I've since read as much as I could find on him and am greatly priveledged to own one of those three superb rifles.
Rest in Peace, Mr. McCoy
