"The One" For All Reasons

So, just got an XD-40 today and was taking some pictures of it with my other handguns and it got me thinking. I have different reasons I like my different handguns, and look at many of them as being "the one" for many different purposes. Here's a pic, then below are some thoughts on what I realized tonight:

DSCF0292.jpg

The One that feels best in my hands: Browning Hi-Power
The One I'd use if I had to make one slow-fire shot at 50 Feet in daylight for my life: S&W 67
The One that taught me handguns can be accurate: S&W 686
The One with the best trigger: S&W 686
The One that's in my bedroom safe for the worst possible scenario: CZ-75b
The One that's got the most unrealized potential in my hands: Kimber Classic Custom Target
The One I hope to eventually become my "multi purpose" go to gun: XD-40
The One I would keep if I absolutely had to give up all others: S&W 67

There are many reasons why each of the above is "The One", and some are "The One" for different reasons. It's kind of interesting when I picked them up together, dry fired, and looked them over all at the same time. Honestly don't know that I've ever done that before.

So... what are your "ones" and why?

which one is that funky looking one, kinda shaped like a luger.

and i noticed the angle of the grip to the gun is a lot steeper than, what i'm assuming is the Browming hi power on the far left, whose grip meets the gun almost at 90'

which gun fits better in your hanbd, points more naturally?

Got an AR, AK, SKS, Enflield, couple Mausers, couple Mosin-Nagants, Win 70, Schmidt-Rubin, Ruger 77/22, Ruger 10/22, Ithaca 37, SKB 100, Win 94/22, etc. I'm forgetting some because I know the number listed above isn't all of them... but I forget. Haven't shot some of them in awhile. Hobbies are fun. :)

The one that's shaped kind of like a Luger is a Hi-Standard H-D Military .22 auto. Not made anymore... something my father had purchased before he passed because he had one as a young man back in the 50's or 60's. Kept it for sentimental reasons, but don't shoot it a whole lot (but it is a very accurate .22 handgun).

I like the Hi-Power the most in terms of grip feel and angle. The Kimber is close 2nd, and I actualy like its balance more. More weight out front than the Hi-Power: the Hi-Power is a little butt heavy with a full mag.

Had an EAA Witness once that was a heavy little thing for a 9mm but felt great in the hand... was probably the best feeling gun I've owned next to the Hi-Power. Sold it and wish I didn't (which is why I bought the CZ last year). After that one, I instituted a new rule: never get rid of a gun. Broke it once... traded a Llama and some cash for the Kimber... good trade and don't regret it.

the ONE

I shoot and reload .45s; 1911s, the most because they are the most fun for me. The one I grab to stick in my pants, to go, most often is my SW 649. Its comfy(fits in my waders) , reliable, powerful and I can shoot it intuitively. I shoot .22 and 9mm as well and enjoy them. I'd sure hate to have to choose only one!

So... what are your "ones" and why?

Taurus 94: The one that taught me never to buy a cheap gun again...
SP-101: The one that taught me how to CCW
Colt LW Commander: The one that I prefer to carry over anything else in the safe. Took a lot of gun-learning to figure that out.
CZ-75: The one that feels better than anything else in my hand and lets me shoot smiley faces in targets with ease
XD9: The one that taught me to finally give up on polymer striker fired guns... they'll never feel as good in trigger or hand or carry as a hammer driven gun.
Redhawk #1: Taught me to shoot .44
Redhawk #2: Taught me to enjoy the services of good gunsmiths to get something unique (still a work in progress)

The "one" for me? CZ P01. Fits me like a glove, shoots sweet, is very durable and the CZ is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated pistols in the world.

Interesting question and I don't have an answer. Each of my handguns fills a role and each does it well. For general purposes I'd say my 1st generation Kimber Gold Match; if I could only keep one it'd be my S&W 686+ with 3 inch barrel as it's pretty good at everything...

Lets see always in my pocket.SEECAMP 32.in the car SW M@P 40 C. house S .W .M 19 357MAG.I guess that covers it.a mixed bag of NUTS :D

I have a lot of guns, but I only have 4 "Ones". That's because other than target practice or for playing, I will only pull a gun out if I plan on shooting and killing a person. In that case, it's pretty simple. If I'm in the house and need a gun to shoot an intruder, it will be the S&W Model 13-1 357 magnum 4" barrel. (No explanation needed). If I am carrying and the weather allows jackets/coats, then it the SigSauer P220 W. Germany 45acp. (I doubt explanation is needed). If the weather is warm and it's just normal shirt/pants, (Same with the bad guy), then it use to be my 32auto Walther/FEG. (I have both). I've now changed that to my CZ-82 9mm Makarov. Along with the Sig P220, the most accurate gun I've ever shot. Excellent self defense round. Ammo is cheap and available, so practicing is easy. And when I am dressed formal, tux, suits, etc... Then I go back to the 32acp Walther/FEG. It's smaller and fits great in ankle holsters and inside jacket pockets.

Of course none of this includes the Remington 870 shotgun for home defense or hunting rifles and such. But for the handguns, I only have 4 that I would call "THE ONE" or my Go-To guns. The rest are strictly for fun, plinking, hunting, etc...

For target and matches-- Springer Custom.
For plinking --Buckmark.
For people--12 ga Mossberg pump
For Zombies and unmarked black helicopters-- M1 Garand
:p

My Colt Python because it's 100 times more accurate than me and has the sweetest action hands down of any handgun i've ever shot. And my old Colt Officer's model for CCW because it has never, ever let me down no matter what i've put it through.

Never shot a Python, but hear they are wonderful. Although, have to say, I can't believe some of the prices for the King Cobras these days as well. I chose my 686 over a King Cobra and a GP-100 based on feel and smoothness of action. I guess you discontinue something and suddenly it's more valuable.

But yes... I realize a Python is a much different weapon and in a different class.

After pondering this concept. My best all-around gun is my S&W 327 R8 M&P.

Although it's a big N-frame, it's pretty light for it's size, and having 8 shot's of .357 is nice too, it shoot's like a dream.

As far as handguns, I'll let you know what my one is, when I get one.:(

...unless I count my Crossman 1377C. It's the one for plinking in the back yard:o

The one gun for me is the M&P9. I'd part with guns I own that are 3 times the value before I parted with that one. It's the everything gun. My constant companion.
