Trying to decide between buying more rounds for my SAR B6P 9mm or a 22lr rifle. I have 250 rounds for the B6P on the way, and don't get to shoot it all that much. When the last couple things I have on eBay sell, I should have around $150, so enough for a decent cheap 22 rifle or around 500 more rounds of 9mm. I'd have to scrounge up for 22 ammo later.

What say you?

Me I would go with more ammo for the 9mm for now and worry about the 22 down the road.At this point I refuse to pay the prices that they want for 22 ammo and wait in line at 5 in the morning to enjoy my hobby. When everything gets back to normal then I would consider another 22.

I vote: "Another gun". But, I wouldn't want another .22. One good .22 pistol and a bolt action .22 rifle is already one more .22 than I need.

Food for thought:
An empty gun is the world's worst designed club!
Just saying.

Not bad!

I own a rifle and a pistol in .22LR, and I am down to my last 1K rounds with no good prospects in sight. The only cause of the shortage that makes sense to me is hoarding, and I don't know when that mindset is going to reverse itself.

It would kill me to buy a new gun and not be able to shoot it for the foreseeable future, so I would have to vote for an ammo purchase.

I voted for more ammo. This sums up my sentiment as well.

With no other 22's owned, I would get ammo for one you own now.

Ideally I like to have enough ammo for several range trips, that way if I can't replace it then, it won't stop a range trip.

I voted for more 9mm ammo. I have been known to shoot more than 250 rounds of 9mm on a single trip to the range, in fact; 250 rounds won't even load up all my 9mm magazines.

22 ammo is inexpensive, but hard to find, I can usually find a 500 or 550 round brick every 90 days or so for $23-$25. I won't pay an inflated price for it.

Frankly, I would buy the .22. I look at having more guns and more options as a beautiful thing.

Around here 9mm has been easy to find of late and actually Gander Mountain had mass quantities on sale a week or so ago. Buying a new rifle shouldn't mean you can't buy a box of 9mm every once in a while. I never bought into the idea of buying cases of ammo I always bought a couple or more when I had the money and even better if it was on sale.

I voted for more ammo, but the reality for me is, I would buy the ammo now because I need it, and buy the .22 rifle next month because I want it.

As far as .22 rifles go, get a good Ruger 10/22, if you want to spend around $150-$200, if you want to not spend a bunch, get an old Glenfield or Marlin tube-mag semi-auto, they seem to run around $125 here.

Of course, if you locate a Marlin 39A for $150, go ahead and get it. We won't laugh at you.

FIND A FRIEND WHO RELOADS!!!

Srsly... my buddies all know that once the kids go to sleep, they're more than welcome to come over and use all my stuff. I've got a Dillon 550 with all the goodies for 9mm/40/45/.223/308/7mm-08... including setup and cleanup, 500rds in 2hrs is no problem.

Obviously I don't charge anything, but they all know that if they're at the range picking up brass, PICK UP EVERYTHING in sight and bring me the stuff they don't use. It works out great.

I've got a buddy who really wants to start reloading .38spl/.357... I told him I'd split the cost of a complete toolhead with him and he's almost saved up his half. I might just have to buy a revolver now.

For 9mm: under 12cents per round (could get it under 10cents using Wolf vice Winchester primers and switching to hardcast... maybe even 9cents buying in bulk)
Winchester small pistol Primers: 3.2cents
5.3gr Power Pistol: 1.5cents
Berry's 115grFMJ: 7.1cents
Brass: free

Seriously, if you ordered 250rds online, even if it's some cheap steel stuff, you probably paid $80+ shipped... that's the cost of 750rds of good reloads.

Find a friend, nothing. BE the friend who reloads. That's where I'd put the money. Every time you pull the trigger on a centerfire round from that day forward will be saving money.

ammo or gun?

With all my guns, I never have enough ammo. That said, with all my guns, I never have enough guns. Go for the ammo and save for the gun. I might recommend looking into a .17 HMR for fun shooting. I have one from Ruger that was not highly priced and .17 HMR ammo is easy to find.
