The Next Generation

As politically active gun owners, we want the government to stop stepping on our 2nd Amendment rights. We don't necessarily want everyone in America to tote a gun; we just want to keep the basic human right to self-defense.

We truly don't need more gun owners, because "gun owner" does not equal "2nd Amendment supporter." Conversely, people can and many do support the RKBA without owning a single gun.

What is needed is an historically educated populace, one that realizes the dangers inherent in removing the RKBA.

So what we need to do is to educate the nation's school children. Right now the anti's and the PC crowd control the educational establishment. This means that the next generation is going to be anti-RKBA by default.

On an individual level, we should all be either homeschooling our own kids or purposefully countering the anti-Rights propaganda they are being fed in the public schools. It's not enough to 'take a kid to the range' (though that is plenty fun and a good place to start), because that won't by itself cause the kid grow up to help preserve the RKBA.

No gun owner who wants to keep the RKBA should have a child who is unable to name and explain the freedoms listed in the Bill of Rights.

The NRA has a good idea with the Eddie Eagle program and the NRA Cafe; we've got to reach out to the next generation or we're sunk for sure. But these programs are not enough, and never will be enough.

Bottom line? Don't forget to teach your kids the lessons of freedom and not merely of gun safety.

My father has not, in my lifetime, owned a gun. Yet he's an NRA member, and goes to every pro-freedom demonstration he can make it to.

If all fathers were so, this discussion would be unnecessary.

Yeah, pax you're right. But think of something else: You say, "No gun owner who wants to keep the RKBA should have a child who is unable to name and explain the freedoms listed in the Bill of Rights."

Consider, "No citizen should have a child who is unable..." I ask, how much of the Bill of Rights is even MENTIONED in today's schools? The First might get touched upon, briefly; and possibly the Fourth, incorrectly.
Overall, the Bill of Rights is an impediment to the political goals of the leadership of the NEA, equally with the Clinton Claque.

A David Horowitz column from Jewish World Review should ruin your evening: http://www.jewishworldreview.com/cols/horowitz1.asp

While it's not about guns, it does comment accurately on the sort of folks who, among other things, are running our school systems--including the universities.

Frightening article.

You are right; no responsible citizen should have a child who is unable to name those essential freedoms.

Thing is, the schools have been co-opted by the antis and we all know it. But what does that matter?

Our children were not bequeathed to us by the State and their education is not the ultimate responsibility of the government. So since the public schools will not teach our children these essentials, we must do it.

If we don't, we'll only have ourselves to blame.
