That is one bad-ass looking gun. I picked up the 4" 500 a few weeks ago and love it. I may have to add this one to my collection too. Thanks for the info.

My bank account is going to be lacking this holiday season... I have some gifts I have to go return... ;)

Anyone have an MSRP for it yet?

Could somebody acually conceal that and carry it? That would put the handgun stopping power debate to an end ;). Is that the intended purpose of this gun concealed carry?

Long-Range... @$$ whomping self defense... ? The bullets are a little expensive for my taste though $26 hornady suggests for a box of 20... guess I'm cheap, ain't too bad though, not like the 500.

I don't think it is for concealment...

It is short for rapid presentation. I think it is marketed as a "backpacker's friend."

"Alaskan" guns are a big rave right now. Supermagnums with barrels under 4". You can shoulder-carry, strong side carry, cross-draw carry, whatever, and it has several inches less to draw and present to that nasty growly thing 10 feet away and closing.

The only problem is the recoil of the .454 or .460 and re-aquiring target for a second or third shot because you missed on the first one while the target is 10 feet away.

I do worry a bit if some gang-banger decided to carry one of these concealed with .460 ammo in it to defeat LEO body armor. I think that .454/.460/.500 will defeat level 2 armor, but I am certainly not an expert.

God help us all if that happens and Nancy Pelosi decides to exploit it to ban supermagnum hunting pistols.

OMG, ill better go with the 8''. That looks terrible.....and what about the bullet performance in such a short barrel?

Hey this will be a real great gun to shoot 454 out of, just like the ruger alaskan is a great shorty for the 45 colt.

Seriously, I think we are going to see a lot of these on the used market realy soon, the Ruger alaskan is as much metal as I would want on my hip for a long period in the great outdoors, any mroe than that and I'll carry a rifle.

That is a special run by Lew Horton, I have the 10 5/8 comp hunter version and I can,t imagine touching off a 460 in a 4 inch barrell. I shot a bowling pin at 100 yds and split it in two. The 10 inch is very easy on recoil but what a ball of flame. The 460 is super accurate and will reach right out to 200yds no problem. I would love it in a rifle, what a deer gun that would be.:D

'bad-a-- looking gun"??????

What the heck is on the end of the barrel, some kind of light bulb fixture?
A bottle opener?
Is it a muzzle loader and the rod is still in the barrel?
I know its a whistle, just put your mouth on it and blow.
Sorry guys, I am a BIG Smith fan (Have 7 N frames) but THAT is the uggliest thing to come out of Smith in many years.
Granted it could make a good sized bears day less bright.
But it needs some cosmetic work.
Thats not a ported gun thats a Howitzer

I saw one last nite, and it's even less attractive than it looks in the pic. Couldn't even bring myself to ask for a gratuitous fondle.

If the bad guy,s line up you can shoot three with on shot. If you take that ugly thing off the end of the barrell you would,nt want to shoot it.;)
