We know Gore isn't trying to take away people's hunting guns...but he will lead us further down a road we do not want to go, where the ONLY acceptable reason to own a gun is for "sport." Once that is established, all non-sporting guns should be banned, of course. And all sporting guns will be required to be stored dissasembled and locked up. And the police, military, and the criminals will have the only good defensive or militia weapons.
His administration has declared that there is no second ammendment right of anyone to own any gun.
He wants to force states to liscense handgun owners. Why should you have to be liscensed to exercise a right, on your own property?
He wants to ban "junk guns" aka "N----rtown Saturday Night Specials." I don't want a cheap, crummy gun, but if a poor person can't afford anything better, they have a right to protect themselves as much as a rich person who can spend $500 on a gun. And, of course, just about any defensive handgun can be classified a saturday night special. If it is has a barrel lenght under five or six inches, if it is not made of steel, if it doesn't have a particular "saftey" lever (like a Glock).
He wants to ban semi-auto pistols, as he called them "assualt weapons."
He says he wants to ban unspecified "assualt weapons" which presumably means any semi-auto long gun.
He wants to take us the way of Austrailia, Canada and England. In other words, even pepper spray will be illegal. If you shoot a burgalar in your house at night, you will go to prison. The government sticks any and all outragous requirements on gun owners, because, after all, it's only a dangerous hobby that is being restricted, not a RIGHT.
If you only want to keep a couple of liscensed, registered bolt actions in a safe, yes, Gore is your man. He firmly supports your privelege to keep and bear registered government approved guns for sporting purposes, unless you fail to meet any requirement the government decides to impose upon you.
