The new HK VP9 anyone have one?

The VP9 is a terrific pistol. I own one and have put over 500 rounds through it now. It is a great shooter for me and one of my favorite striker fired pistols along with my Walther PPQ and I CCW both.

I like my PPQ a little bit more but am very happy with both. One gripe I have with the VP9 is that I find that with my thumbs forward grip on occasion the slide does not remain open on the last round fired. I don't have that problem with any of my metal frame SIGs, my HK P30, or my PPQ.

Heya RB, glad to see you here. You know I own(and love) the VP9.

You gotta get one! :p

Oddly enough, I don't have that problem at all with the VP9, but I did have it frequently with my P30. I'm kind of at a loss how you can have it with the VP but NOT with the P30 as the P30's levers are much more pronounced than the VP9.

Ah well. I was actually expecting to have that issue with mine... but was pleasantly surprised that I did not.

I meant to say my P30LS which has the short slide release levers. One of the reasons I wanted the P30LS. ;)

Ahh. I had the PPQ for a little bit. I ended up selling it. It just didn't feel quite right to me. My biggest complaint was the sights. The rear sight, in particular. Due to the extremely tapered nature of the slide, the rear sight sticks way up and out on the sight. I put Trijicon HD's on mine, as I do with almost all of my guns... and the rear sight was so sharp it actually tore up my hand trying to do overhand reloads as I usually do.

I don't care about the plastic guide rod. I've never had one fail in any of my guns that use them. Hell, my old Sig P229 Stainless Elite had a plastic guide rod and I shot the crap out of that thing(in 40s&w). Sure, I would prefer to go with a metal one if given the option, but I don't care to replace whatever the factory provides with any of the aftermarket guide rods.

The trigger is a big point of contention for many people. I actually prefer the VP9 overall, but I admit the PPQ is a little more crisp in the actual break. However, the PPQ has quite a long take-up and mine was pretty gritty. You could hear(and feel) it crunching along while taking up the slack. The VP9 on the other hand it a smooth take up. There is a little bit of creep, but a pretty good feel to the break with just a bit of over travel.

The reset on the PPQ is shorter, but dare I say it's almost TOO short? Some may believe there isn't such a thing. In any case, I like the forceful reset feel of the VP9. It's somewhat Glock-like in it's reset... and Glock is pretty much impossible to beat in the feel of the RESET(overall trigger notwithstanding).

I do think the PPQ is a good gun, it just felt... 'off' to me. Hard to explain. I really wanted to like it. Once I felt the VP9 in my hand it was just perfect. It was everything that I WANTED the PPQ to be.

I own a VP9, and have shot approximately 400 rounds through it so far. It has been 100% reliable and very accurate for me. At the time of purchase, I thought that the VP9 had the best trigger that I have felt on a striker fired gun. It is a great trigger.

Two months later, I ordered up a Walther PPQ M2 Navy SD, and I have to say the trigger is just a little better on the PPQ than the VP9. But both are excellent, and better than pretty much any other striker fired pistols on the market. I love the ergonomics of the VP9. It fits my hand perfectly with the small backstrap and side panels installed.

My experience is just the opposite of Uncle Malice:D I thought the VP9 was my favorite pistol until I finally got around to purchasing a PPQ. The PPQ is my go to pistol now. But I do still love the VP9.

My P30S is kind of my red headed step child. I love the ergos, and it is 100% reliable and built like a tank. I just don't shoot it as well as the VP9 or PPQ. My Hk 45c is a DA/SA, and I shoot tight groups with it. For some reason, I just cannot seem to do that with the P30S. I'm talking 4" groups at 10 yards, where the other three pistols will easily produce one ragged hole at the same distance.

My brother was looking to buy a P30, so I let him shoot my P30S, and he shot one ragged hole with it. He purchased one of his own right after that range session.

I pay mine off in 2 weeks.

Getting anxious and can't wait. I'm a fairly new shooter so I don't know much but I feel I'm getting a good firearm and will come back with a range report hopefully in a few weeks.

Uncle Malice
I don't understand why you would delete all of your posts....

Perhaps he works for Glock, and was conducting some undercover product research. We all must have scared him off with our glowing reviews!
