So, this morning I hustled up and got my butt down to THE GUN STORE here in L.V. to take my 5 yr CCW renewal class. Still not mentally satisfied with my choice for a second carry piece, I deliberately prevented myself from taking the easy way out and simply qualifying again with my currently listed .38. Hurriedly made arrangements this week for the class as I recently discovered processing is about 8 - 9 weeks. Terrific Instructor!! One of two excellent professionals there!! Actually was expecting my original.
Although there's lots of paperwork and s***, just like a new one; that's not why I'm posting.
Just realizing how pleasurable it is to actually enjoy a sport(hobby) again. I've drifted away over the past few; and found this a perfect time to renew my interest as well as my obligation. About 25 renewees(??) attended. Mostly middle or older aged white males, at least 2 women; from different occupations or retired. With an equally disparate choice of weapons. Seemed to be largely full-framed, large cal. autos and revolvers. Interestingly, the Instructor carried a .32. Most of the staff packed Glocks or other poly-looking pieces; but several wore a gov. model or revolver. Did (didn't) anything happen since the last time I noticed these things?
But one decision WAS made- I would not any longer fool myself about developing a 40. fetish. For only the second time, I will sell a piece .Shot it maybe once or twice on outings; no more than 20 or 30 rounds. Time to go. And I empirically determined to re-qualify with that .38; though I retain the option to replace it anytime with another qualified hider. Therein lies my quandary.I'll determine that eventually; but for now, today was an educational experience. Learned some history. And saw up close and personal the trend toward polymer. And I still prefer steel. (Or alloy). And I will endeavor to get out more often and play with my toys. And most important and satisfying; I will make an effort to help "The Cause." Its My Honorable Obligation as an American. Just wish I could choose between an auto or revolver.Life can be so difficult sometimes. The more things change..........

Hi Citizen.

Glad you got your batteries recharged. I too like the .38/357 family Have others but don't feel I need others.

Sam....let me navigate, I know a shortcut.

one of the most important things and the hardest thing most gun people face is being satisfied. i have lost count of the times i had a rifle or handgun and was perfectly happy. i carried/used it with reasonable skill and was confident that it would perform well when called upon.
then would come some landmark event. a failure in the hunting field or on the firing line, one to many articles about an action type or caliber, the stinging opinion of a trusted friend or mentor.
the next event is old news to all of us in the firearms community. a hasty sale or trade. i have posted several times how in recent years i have come full circle with the handguns i carry and the rifles i hunt with. after many trades and experiences with other action types, calibers and firearm foremats i have reached the point were rather than finding a magic caliber or firearm i am back to what i was using one to two decades ago.

i started CCW packing a 681 S&W .357 or an A75 Astra in .40 auto.

tomorrow will find me slipping on a K40 Kahr or Ruger Speed Six in .357. not the same guns but the size, caliber and basic foremat are the same.

now if i has all that money i lost in all those trades over the years i would tke us all out for steak and beers.

LOL
