The Middle East, what's the deal?

As a kid in the American Midwest, I was taught in school that the tensions in the Middle East were based on religious and territorial disputes going back thousands of years, with the claimants being Muslim, Jewish, and Christian. Pretty sticky situation, all the way around. The topic thread in this forum discussing U.S. Government intel and the beliefs of the Arab community concerning the "Great Satan" of the United States follows along with the fanaticism. Now I read another report, and wonder what's really the deal:
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/bluesky_btl/20001011_xcbtl_myths_brmi.shtml

Is this a piece of disinformation, or is this Arab-American gentleman on to something here? Either way, in comparison, it makes the HCI vs. NRA arguments pretty cut and dry!

(Although I still consider HCI to be "The Great Satan"!)

Ok I will bite, First of all let it be known I am an orthodox jew and have deep sentiment toward my fellow jews in Israel. I for one and would be in the minority of jews here feel that the us should not get invovled in this mess.

The truth is and this is the bottom line, Arafat has no authority to speak for his people and they don't listen to him when they don't like what he is saying. For arafat to promise peace from his people when he says he cant control them, than he is not a true leader. That is why the peace problem is a joke. Barak has gone way out of his way in making concessions more than what rabin would have wanted. Now it looks like barak is going to lose and an even more conservative will be brought to power and they will make no further concessions. Arafat on the other hand is being told by his people not to go to the summit. If he goes he loses and hamas will take over. If he stays he looks bad in the eyes in the world.

Land for peace never works. If the palestinians wanted peace so much why do they need land for it. Even the peace with egypt has been extremely cold.

Just ask the American Indians when they agreed to land for peace. The concept just doesn't work!

"Land for peace" is equivalent to "Give me your car and I won't burn down your house."

I'm somewhat amazed that so many Israeli Jews seem to have fallen for it.

Once again we are trying to make peace in the middle east . But with us it's peace for dollars . We give money and the fighting stops . Soon it starts again and we run to give more money . BULL!!!! Let's adopt a different approach . It's called "The Last Man Standing."
The Saudis are standing behind the Palestinians and that's not good for us . Got gas ??????????????

Another thing I forgot to point out was there is an arab summit coming up oct 20th. All the leaders from the arab countries are going and here is the hitch. They remember, and the american public forgot, that arafat supported the iraqis during the gulf war. The saudis remember that and even though they hate arafat, they hate israel more. So yes they will put their weight behind arafat, but it isn't with much enthusiasm.

A side note, since the bombing of the synagogue on saturday in syracuse NY and a shooting of jews in chicago last week. A lot of my jewish friends are asking me to come to the synagogue more and protect them. I told them to help themselves and another thing is a few of them told me they own pistols and now want to dust them off and go shooting with me. Maybe the messiah is coming?

I usually park my truck at the front of the parking lot of my synagogue with my bumpers showing. It has several NRA, GOA, and other gun related bumper stickers on it. If some insane terrorist wants to shoot up some jews, I think after seeing that they might just turn around.

Hoosierboy,

These people get in a boat and drive out to a ship and blow themselves up on purpose. While I applaud your being armed, I hardly think your bumper stickers will deter them. They've got more courage than sense.

I don't want this to sound like I think the wars are a good idea, but I do want to applaud the BRASS BALLS that these mid-eastern fellas are sporting!!

I don't Know all the issues, or whose land it was first, or what war they lost it in, but here's what I know:

The other night on the news there was a picture of a soldier, (isrealy, jew, palestinian, who knows) He was up in some sort of stone tower and only he face and arms were showing. He was holding an automatic rifle (couldn't see it that well) and was spraying the street below with rapid-fire. He was he exchanging fire with?? armed gun man?? a tank?? an army of rebels?? Nope. There was about 10-15 young boys, probably 14-16 years old. They were down in the street THROWING ROCKS, AND SHOOTING THEIR SLING SHOTS at this armed soldier. What did they hope to accomplish?? I can only imagine, but these kids had balls. Big, Brave, Brass Balls, and They were showing it.

Why do these people revolt? Because they have to fight for freedom each and everyday. Dozens are killed daily but still they fight, because they understand that to live under oppression isn't really living. The american people have been too long in a cozy lazy lifestyle, where we only have to decide what channel to watch or which of our 3 cars to drive to work. It's been to long since we've been oppressed by a King or Queen who knows of nothing but their own freedoms to oppress us. That is why while we get riled up and cry out about new stricter gun laws, we fail to actually revolt against them and say that we have been backed into the corner, and there will be no more compromises. We need to fight back for the America that George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson fought for, and the country that Patrick Henry died for. We need to take back America like the mid-easterners (whoever is right) are trying to take back the holy lands. The Anti-gunners be damned. They have nothing to fight us with except for their own government funded "studies and statistics." It's been so long that they don't understand that the second admendment is what makes all our other rights our rights. But I Guess I don't have to explain all this to you guys, you already know the deal.

BadMedicine,

It's not a case of them being purposely excluded from the representative Israeli government. These people have been advocating the destruction of all Jews for years. They have refused state money, they have refused to vote, they have refused to attend Israeli schools. They have not even tried a serious political solution, they have simply used violence as a means to gain more land. It disgusts me how people like Farakan and people like him are out protesting the Jews when they are being pushed into a corner and being attacked with rocks and molotovs. If you were getting pelted with rocks you'd shoot them too.

Believe what you will, but the Palestinians are no saints. They are also certainly not the same calibur of men that won the revolution in America.

They gained strong credibility with me when they forecast the "oil happenings" back in late spring of last year...Anybody who's correct some six months to a year ahead of the rest of the world is okay in my book.
