The leetle springy thing on a Gold Cup

Anyone know the purpose or function (other than getting lost) of the teeny tiny lil thin sheet steel spring loaded gizmo that rides on the sear of a Gold Cup between the sear and the disconnector?
I took mine apart and the only way to get it back in was to make a slave pin of a toothpick section to hold it where it belongs and push the toothpick out through the sear pin hole when reassembling.
I ....GUARANTEE.....no one can keep it together while inserting it back in the frame without something to hold it there.

It's to prevent that big, wide, heavy steel trigger from bouncing off the disconnector and causing the hammer to fall when you're loading the gun.
