The Latest From Canada

Well it appears that all politicians just have a big load of fecal matter for brains after this latest tragedy. There was a 15 year old boy shot and killed in a school in Toronto and the ensuing politics is making me crazy. As much as I feel sorry for the family I have to rant about politicians.

One of the premiers of the Eastern provinces sent a letter the Stephen Harper (the PM) requesting a total ban on all handguns in Canada and people are jumping on board without stopping to think.

I will bet you my truck that this gun was not legally purchased or at the very least not used by the legal owner (given that 17 year olds have been arrested and you have to be 18 to get a handgun license).

Now tell me folks how in San He11 does taking away the legally owned handguns from regular Joe lawabiding citizens make it less likely that gangster pete in downtown Toronto will have a Glock in the waistband of his jeans? If you take away the .22 pistol that my friend is intending to buy for shooting tin cans and paper targets how is that going to stop a driveby in a city somewhere?

Why do people just jump on with these things without actually stopping to think? It just makes me so effin mad that no one can stop and think for themsleves.

Instead of taking away handguns lets make the use of them to commit a crime carry such large penalties that no-one in their right mind would even consider it. And then if they do use an illegal handgun to commmit a crime we can lock em up and throw away the key.

I'm moving someplace where they will let me buy whatever in the heck I want. I'm not going to be going around commiting crimes so why not let me have what I want.

I suppose that new country that you will be moving to is the USA. ;) Sad to hear that people in Canada are potentially going to lose their privilege to own a handgun. :(

Not if I have anything to say about it. If I have my way, we'll be moving closer to the 2A ideal. Law-abiding citizens will have the choice to carry a firearm for personal protection of life and limb.

...

But if it doesn't work out... anybody gonna need a Journey-man B-Pressure & Specialty Metals welder in a few years... ?

:D

I'd also just seen in the news that a kid was injured in Canada when their homemade gun went kaboom on them. And, of course, Toronto is experiencing a rise in gun crime, all done by criminals with illegal guns. They even have Russian gangs there. Vicious Russian gangs.

Thus proving, once again, that you can't unmake guns, laws don't work, and people who aren't supposed to have them will get them, one way or another.

Yep, welcome to Canada. Toronto is basically turning into our Washington D.C. Out here in Calgary where we have a much less liberal attitude we have much less gang related crime involving firearms, but as we liberalize from our exodus of workers from back East its getting worse. Hell, we had two cops loose their service pistols (one of them in a school!) in the same timre frame as the high school shooting and the home made gun incident. I sure hope we have CCW up here before its too late and we hit critical mass. I want what works, and so far most of my fellow citizens either don't see it as being a good idea or worth the effort yet.

Jseime & Canuck,

Really sorry to hear that. Frankly (and I'm not making a joke here,) I was a little surprised to hear that regular Joes can own handguns in Canada at all still. (Is it just that the average person can't carry one?)

Best of luck.

Yep. There are a good chunk of us working hard to change that. We experience something called "social lag" up here. Most times, when something happens down there, it happens up here in five to ten years. An example of this would be the meat locker murders where the criminals rob a fast food joint and then herd all the staff into the meat locker to kill witnesses. Others are crack, meth, urban flight... So we see the need to give Canadian citizens the right to carry firearms in the interest of preservation of life and limb.

A lot of us in Canada like to think we are seperate from the US and are, well.... better... When I challenge people on this they always scoff. So I ask, "what's your favourite tv show, movie, musician, fast food, car, movie star..." Well before I'm done they realize we share a lot more with our neighbors to the South than they originally thought...

Our values are more alike than we think. We all want to take care of our families, have a nice home in a nice neighbourhood and a nice car in the garage and some of us want to protect our family to the best of our ability as well. What's wrong with that?

And I thought all Canadians did now was rant about the horrible USA, show up in Michael Moore propaganda films, and drive Zamboni's to work? :D

Shows I was mistaken. You're welcome down here Cannuck. I'll trade more guys like you with less guys like the illegals any day. Assuming you go through the proper channels :p

Canada is responsible for foisting Bryan Adams' emasculatingly cloying "singing" upon the world. This, to me, is unforgivable. :p

Yeah, and be nice or we'll let loose a few more just like 'em! Just look at the damage Celine Dion did!

Nope I rant about everything in general...including Micheal Moore :D. When my firearms license comes up for renewal I'm going to have the restricted weapons permit added and buy a couple handguns and a Stag Arms Model 2L AR.

Just because I would have to drive over an hour to get to a shooting range where I could use them doesnt mean I cant have em.

I have a list of some guns that are non-restricted and some of them may surprise you Canuck... check out www.wolverinesupplies.com I might pick up a Swiss Arms SIG or H&K SL8 for use as a coyote rig.
