Scenario: SHTF and now things have settled down a little bit. Money is no good. Barter system for almost everything you need, trading either goods or services. Having your own firearm is required in your secure community, but a law enforcement group is keeping things fairly safe. Food is getting scarce, but people with more food than they need are willing to trade for your firearms. You have a family with several mouths to feed. Your choice is to trade your firearms for food. What is the last gun you would let go of?

I'll start - It would be my Home Defense Handgun, a GP100.

I think it would depend on where one lives, i.e., a metro city, farm land with good hunting, the mountains, near the beach best suited for fishing, etc. In some areas a rifle is practical and others a handgun would be best to hold onto for survival.

I've often wondered if I was forced to only keep ONE gun, which one out of what I already have I'd keep.

I'm leaning toward my AC556. Small, compact, select-fire, rugged and dependable. I could carry it around in a gym-bag if I had to.

Yep - that's going to be my choice.

Probably my handgun, why do you ask? Because if someone started a gun grab it would be the easiest to hide or conceal on my person if I had to move out of the area.

On the otherhand, if a gun grab was not likly and I was going to be moving for sure I would probably keep a rifle.

No other "In before the lock"

.22lr
Could easily keep 5,000 rounds, good enough to take down someone with a few pops but better for hunting rabbits squirrels, you do want meat not lead right?

I went for a shotgun/rifle for hunting. You'd be able to shoot some game for meat, if the vegetable garden doesn't provide quite enough, but could be used for defence, to a degree...

If I could only keep one firearm it would be my S&W 442. It can be used for home defense and daily carry. Plus, it's always been 100% reliable.

The last gun I'd ever let go would be my Beretta 92FS, it's A) my favorite and B) the most all around functional. And I have lots of ammo for it (second only to the .22LR's).

So I chose handgun for home defense as I do not carry this gun due to it's size. However if it came down to my last gun, well I could certainly carry the 92FS if I had to.
Longer barrel, high capacity magazines, super accurate, very reliable, lots of ammo, easy to keep on you .... yep, that would be the sole survivor.

*Sigh* Here we go again .

You know, if for whatever reason, I wanted to post something here that I'm sure few would read, I'd post it at the very top of the page, and in big, bold letters, title it "Forum Rules" ;).

Kinda like THIS. Please pay particular attention to rule #5.
