quote:
6) Although millions of semi-automatic firearms are used legally and routinely for recreation, some legislative proposals fail to distinguish "assault weapons" from other semiautomatic firearms and would ban or restrict the legitimate use of semi-automatic sporting arms. The League calls on Congress and other legislatures to reject such proposals restricting the possession and use of semi-automatic firearms.[/quote]

This was obtained from the Izaak Walton league website. I find this bothersome in that it somehow suggests that weaponry ownership and legality must be defined by sporting viability alone, and that the ownership of "assault weapons"(hype), is somehow less important than the ownership of semi automatics used in hunting.
Yet another example of a group being egocentric and willing to compromise on the gun issue because their agendas would not be threatened as badly by bans of certain things.
It would be nice to see knife, gun, bow, hunting, logic, etc enthusiasts all join together to fight stupidity, rather than add to it because it protects their own interests.

Dangus - Do you have the URL that contains this? They have a ton of stuff out there and I'd hate to wade through it all. I'd like to have it as a reference when I write to them about this.
