The hunt for a safe. Narrowed it down to 2.

Hello everyone.

I still am in the market for a new safe, and I've been researching for about the past 6 months.

I've come to two models:

1. AMSEC BF7240 - http://www.amsecusa.com/gun-safes-BF-main.htm

2. Sturdy Safes 3627-6 with the fire liner - http://www.sturdysafe.com/model3627-6.htm

I'm stuck! I can't decide. More or less they are both around the $2,800 mark and it's just killing me on which to get! As of now, I am leaning more towards the AMSEC model...it's a bit larger and is UL rated (for what that's worth) and weighs a bit more...

Need everyones advice and testimonials. Thanks!
 
I had narrowed it down to the same two brands. I liked the thicker skin steel on the Sturdy, but they didn't have a size that I thought would fit in my closet. I ended up getting the Amsec BF6032, because I thought it would fit in my closet. It turns out the 6032 did not fit in my closet and now I wish I'd gone with the bigger Sturdy.

Oh well, I am happy with the Amsec. I really don't think you can go wrong with either.

I have two AMSEC safes and couldn't be happier. Heavier is great until you want to move the darn thing! I just remove the door on the bigger safe when I've moved to a different house. The smaller safe we move as one piece. I looked at a lot of safes before buying and I think most are well built and similar in options and what not. But for me, the AMSEC was my choice.

For me it came down to what I could actually buy easily. I bought a Liberty because they have good safes and they have a factory store one hour away from me. They had delivery and installation as well.

I think I can safely assume that you have indeed done some homework. Those two are of great quality even if you become more critical on features/build quality due to the higher price. There's a fellow member here by the handle of a1abdj. He's very knowledgeable on gun safes. In fact, he makes a living selling/installing safes from residential to top banks. Here's is member link. His website is on there also. I'd give him a jingle and let him know what your choices are. He's chocked full of information and if you use the search function using his handle, you can dig up some information that may help you.

Both are good. I've never seen a Sturdy in person, but I've heard good things about them. I almost bought one, but I couldn't afford the shipping and setup. Most of my lumbar is fused, so me inching a 900 pound safe up stairs didn't seem like a good idea. I got a Diamond Back Safe from a local locksmith that offered to deliver and set it up, and I'm pleased with it.

Regardless of what you get, make sure it is bigger than what you actually need. Trust me, you'll grow into the thing in a year or two.
 
Just talked to a1abdj and I'm convinced that the AMSEC is the way to go.

Now all I need to do is save up for another month or so then do the deed!
 
Just my 2 cents worth. Looking at the photos of the safe, it looks as if they have the digital locking pad.

I just purchased one this last year and I love the "touch pad" I have used the standard dial type locks in the past and the pad is much better. You can set it to your choice of combination and its very quick to unlock! (About 2 seconds vs. up to 30 seconds an the dial if you make a mistake gurrrr!)

Wouldn't trade back to convential unless I had to.
