The Usefulness of Guns

Too Few Guns Here
Two men entered a Wendy's restaurant in Queens, New York, just before
closing time last night. They pulled out guns and started shooting. Five
people are dead, two others wounded. Police say they had been tied up and
shot in the basement of the restaurant.
This is part of a scary new trend in New York City. This year the murder rate
has climbed 12.4 percent.
Why? Because after two shootings of unarmed civilians by the "racist"
NYPD, the city has taken a couple of steps back on law enforcement.
After the unfortunate Amadou Diallo incident, the city shut down the Street
Crimes Unit. The murder rate in Diallo's neighborhood jumped shortly
thereafter.
These two predators probably wouldn?t have been walking around the streets
of Queens with guns if the Street Crimes Unit had still been on the job. It was
thugs such as these that the unit was putting into jail on a regular basis.
Well, thanks to the demagoguery of Hillary and her pal Al Sharpton, the
Street Crimes Unit is gone and the predators are coming back. It?s now safer
for the criminals, and less safe for law abiding citizens.
The criminals know they have less to fear from a police department that's
been hamstrung by negative coverage by the media and withering attacks by
friends of a certain Senate candidate. And the citizens of New York City, who
can't even buy a gun without first getting a license from the police, are paying
the price.
There aren't enough guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens. And there
certainly weren't enough guns in that Wendy's last night.
Chalk Up Three More for Armed Citizens
This week, nearly 50,000 law-abiding Americans will defend themselves or
their families using firearms. Three stories have made the news this week:
· In Salt Lake City, an intruder pounded on a homeowner's sliding glass door
around three in the morning on Sunday. He broke the glass and entered the
home. The homeowner, awakened by his barking dog, yelled at the man to
leave. He didn't. The homeowner opened fire with his .40-caliber pistol and
killed the S.O.B.
· In Spring Hill, Florida, 53-year-old grandmother Sandra Suter stopped a
knife-wielding man who was attacking Wal-Mart employees. The man had
tried to steal a VCR. She drew her .40-caliber semiauto and forced the man
to disarm and surrender to store security.
· In south Atlanta, two men tried to rob a mobile home around midnight
Monday. Several people were in the trailer when the gunmen entered through
an unlocked door. The robbers fired first, injuring one of their would-be
victims. One of the residents fired back. One gunman got away. The other
has met his maker.
What on earth were these people thinking, using those big scary guns like
that? Don't they know what a danger they are to themselves and others?
Don't they know that guns can transform people into criminals and
psychopaths? Or that they're a ka-zillion times more likely to shoot a family
member? They ought to be arrested on the spot for even owning guns! So says
Rosie O'Donnell.
I just hope no armed citizen has to come to Rosie's rescue anytime soon.
