Here's my latest. Found it at a "yard/estate" sale for $100.

The lady said it was her deceased husbands gun.
It had been "put away" for many years.

Tight as a drum. Perfect timing. Mint bore. Real nice bluing. Grips excellent. All lettering is crisp.

Front sight has been filed down.

The pics don't capture the true color of the bluing.

Serial # 1855xx

1911-1913 maybe?

GREAT FIND, RogerC!

Congratulations. The deals and the fine old guns are still out there, sometimes, some places - - -

Don't you wish these old pieces could talk, or that at least, we could know something of the original owners? Clearly, your super-nice piece was not carried much, if any. But equally clearly, the owner cared about being able to hit what he aimed at.

Revolvers of that era were usually pretty well regulated for standard ammunition. The slightly trimmed front sight indicates to me that the owner wanted to be able to place High Speed (.38/44??) loads or healthy handloads with precision. And, such a combination was considered pretty high-powered in the pre-.357 Magnum days. Wonder if the old timer was a vintage firearms enthusiast, or if he contemplated going in harm's way.
(Yeah, I have a vivid imagination.) ;)

Best,
Johnny

I am not real crazy about 6" M&Ps but this one sure looks nice. Must have lived in the dresser drawer for the past 85 years or so. I wonder how much it has actually been fired?
