The Gunners Dream

While listening to some classic Floyd... (Something I like to do before going to work)
I listened to the words and realized this is a dream we all share in one way or another.
BTW, I think THE FINAL CUT is Pink Floyd's most biting, and poignant works. I recomend it highly.
To the Song...

quote:
The gunners dream:

floating down through the clouds
memories come rushing up to meet me now
in the space between the heavens
and the corner of some foreign field
i had a dream
i had a dream
goodbye max
goodbye ma
after the service when your walking slowly to the car
and the silver in her hair shines in the cold november air
you hear the tolling bell
and touch the silk in your lapel
and as the tear drops rise the meet the comfort of the band
you take her frail hand
and hold on to the dream

a place to stay
enough to eat
somewhere old heroes shuffle safely down the street
where you can speak out loud
about your hopes and fears
and what's more no-one ever disappears
you never hear their standard issue kicking in your door
you can relax on both sides of the tracks
and maniacs don't blow holes in bandsmen by remote control
and everyone has recourse to the law
and no-one kills the children anymore
and no-one kills the children anymore

night after night
going round and round my brain
his dream is driving me insane
in the corner of some foreign field
the gunner sleeps tonight
whats done is done
we cannot just write off his final scene
take heed of his dream
take heed[/quote]

While listening to the song as played by Floyd, you get the feeling he is talking about getting rid of Janet Reno...

George, Getting rid of Janet and crew is a dream and the sooner the better.
That Floyd stuff is becoming more and more enjoyable.

just downloaded this song, its very very nice.
pink floyd is one of the better ones out there, a must for most people who like this type of music.

The Final Cut is a great album... You really have to hear the songs before and after (the whole album really) to get the big picture.

It is basically Roger Water's philosophy regarding post war english politics and its effects on those who survived the war, and live in the post war england.

"Jesus, Jesus, what's it all about?
Trying to clout these little ingrates into shape
When I was their age all the lights went out
There was no time to whine and mope about
And even now part of me flies
Over Dresden at angels one-five.
Though they'll never fathom it
Behind my sarcasm desperate memories lie"

Definitely one of my favorite Floyd albums...

10mm: It's not the size of the Dawg in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog!

By far one of the best Floyd albums, if not THE best. Which is ironic because, if I remember correctly, its nucleus was songs/ideas that were deemed not worthy of making it on The Wall. I might be wrong on that, however...its been a while.

I find Waters' general blind anti-war leanings to be unsavory, but it is somehow touching that even he can admit that the war that claimed his father (Eric Fletcher Waters) was a needed thing, and that those who fought it were truly heroic.

If only he hadn't added that silly bit in Fletcher Memorial Home that was against the Falkland's campaign (Galtieri stole the Union Jack/And Maggie over lunch one day/took a cruiser with all hands/apparently, to make him give it back!)...

PS As far as I know, btw, when the HMS Conqueror sunk the Belgrano there were many survivors...and its not the fault of the Brits that the cruiser's escorting destroyers turned tail and fled, leaving some of their countrymen to drown.

Well, at work lately I've been chillin' to Several Species of Small Furry Creatures Gathered Together In a Cave and Grooving with a Pict...

People are starting to look at me strangely...
