There is a general debate that if gun cabinet is necessary at all. My personal feeling is that, these cabinets are beautiful piece of artwork that keeps our guns safe from multiple threats. Do you agree?

Sounds like you're selling them?

Answer to question - "yes" as an adequate low security solution, however the simple steel security cabinets have shown to be easily defeated by a thief with even the most rudimentary tools.

I'm getting ready to buy one myself (probably a Stack-On at Dick's) to place in a hidden basement walk-in closet that's locked in two places - the cabinet is just to keep little hands away and not to stop a determined BG.

The threats that classic wood gun cabinets protect against are not burglary theft or any kind of determined thief.

They may protect against "honest" theft -- the opportunist who could just grab and scat. Or the person who doesn't want to damage anything or make noise while stealing.

But as far as protection against elements, rust, thieves and unlawful seizures, a safe does a much better job.

The problem, of course, is that when a thief sees a gun cabinet, he can see what's inside to steal. Most are not very sturdy with regards to theft prevention. When facing a safe, it might contain guns, a stamp/coin collection, or simply important documents.

Would be kinda nice to see someone produce a solid safe with a bullet-proof window in the front and some nice wood paneling and framing to cover the metal.

Someone who could combine both concepts into an effective (emphasis on "effective") security option that also looks nice could make a good deal of money for themselves.
