The GP100 Match Champion, anyone got one?

I got to check out the match champion this weekend at a gun show, but didn't shoot it. I was very impressed with the look and feel of it. Much more refined than the standard macho GP. Looks like Ruger has attempted to equal the eloquence of a Smith. I'm hearing that the trigger is very sweet.

Anyone own one, shot one, etc.?

It's pricey, but sure looked sweet to me!

I've played with them. I like the target grips and some of the detail work.

The trigger on my brand new L frame is much better, and the fit and finish is better on the Smith.

The GP is a nice gun, but fit and finish is still not as good as the new Smiths. My old GP100 with a spring kit has a nicer trigger, but it may just be a break-in issue.

I handled one at the gun show in Dallas yesterday. It was sweet in every detail.

I ended up getting the GP100 in 4" .357 Blue. I'm taking it to the range tomorrow. Should be a sweet pistol also.

Sweet ???? ...nope this is Sweet !!!

The Match Champion should be a dandy for IDPA SSR and ICORE Classic Divisions. It is basicly a longer barrel Willy Clapp GP100 from what I can tell.

It will still need a little tuning.
Chamfered Chambers
A little touch up on the interior and a spring set.
I would probably install .005 Hammer Shims, .005 Hammer Dog Shims, and .003 Trigger Shims.

Run a few hundred rounds through it, and it should be pretty slick.

I read some negative comments about the Dovetailed Novak Sights. They are still State of the Art on a 1911. So whats the problem?? If the sights are on, they are on. If it might happen to shoot Low or High the Novak 1911 sights come in different heights to make the correction. No Big Deal to adjust IF NEEDED.

If my local dealer, who gets in Ruger Revolvers fairly regularly gets one in, It will probably come home with me. Unless one of the other guys I shoot ICORE with get to it first.

When I bought my GP100 last year I was able to compare it directly to a 686 SSR. The Ruger was much smoother in the chambers, throats and bore, but the 686 SSR looked prettier on the outside.

I bet the guy who ended up buying the 686 SSR spends more time scrubbing his bore than I do.

hadn't seen one yet, so I had to go out looking for pictures... something I don't like about the looks ??? can't put my finger on it... I like the dovetailed sights, I think I like my Pachmayr finger groove grips better ( I have a stainless 4" GP-100 already ) so I'm not likely to go searching for one...

If they show up in Democrat-occupied California I will buy one.

One thing I have not been clear on is why a gun named "Match Champion" would have fixed sights. I always thought that fixed sights were best for carry applications such as a cop's duty gun, a CCW gun, etc. where the low-profile fixed sight is more streamlined. It seems to me that a match gun would want to have adjustable sights.

There is probably an answer to this question?

Anyway the GP100MC looks like a winner. I wan' it!

I don't have the GP100MC, but I do have standard S&W 686's as well as a 686SSR - when used in IDPA, I find the lighter front end of the 686 SSR makes it more sensitive to grip, and it becomes very easy to drop additional points when things speed up.

If I were looking for a GP100 or 686 for IDPA, I'd get the standard variant and simply have it tuned and chamfered.

I was about to order one a few weeks ago, but I didn't. Instead, I decided to put that money towards finishing my custom GP100. I couldn't justify it after seeing I had three GP100's already. I wouldn't mind more, but telling the wife I want another while still working on one... it didn't go as planned. We'll just leave it there. :o

Wow good deal indeed it is. Identical to what I have. The only difference is I run a red fiber optic. Other than that I would swear that its my gun.

Stopped by the LGS today to do my bi-weekly .22lr ammo check (nope, nothing, lol)... So I did the required walk around and there was a Match Champion in the case. It looked pretty nice, but I did notice, as I was looking at it in line with the other Gp100s there, that the front sight lost the quick change button that other GP100s have. Kind ofa nice feature on the regular GP's.. wonder why they deleted it on the MC (is it becuase of half barrel lug???)

It is a nice feature to have, but I kind of like the idea of the windage adjustable fixed sights. They look pretty rugged. The stock adjustable GP100 rear sight seems a little fragile.
It looks like they used 1911 style sights fore and aft, does anyone know if they are compatible with other sights? It would be nice to know if you can change elevation by swapping fronts.
