The Flag gets no Respect !

I don't know if I should post this here or in General. But since I just read the post on Banned Books here it is.
I was at my sons High School football game the other night and watched the crowd as the Star Spangled Banner was played. I could not believe that a good majority of the people do not know how to show the proper respect for the anthem and the flag. It really burns my a**. There were people standing that didn't even know which way to face the flag.
People who didn't take their caps off. People talking and just continuing on their merry time.Kids were just let go to run and create an annoyance. I was disgusted. What is wrong with these people.
I served 20 years in the Fire Service and when in uniform knew the proper procedures.
As an American citizen I know the proper procedure. Maybe a book on this has already been banned,What are our schools teaching our kids about this. What is the matter with adults who should know better and set the example?
The American Flag and The National Anthem are the two greatest symbols of this great country and its pretty sad when it's people cannot give them the respect they deserve,But then again most these people don't respect themselves :( This isn't the first time I have noticed this either
Just my daily rant :(

What he said.

I was more than a little dissappointed last night, watching the Olympics -- medal presentation for the women's swimming something-or-nuther. Americans won gold and silver, and the gold medal winner just stood there holding her flowers while the National Anthem played.

At least the silver medalist knew what to do.

[sigh]

My wife and I attended the local HS Football game this past Friday. I was much pleased that when the announcer said "please stand as the band plays the national anthem", people stood, hats came off, hands or hats were correctly positioned, and the few seconds prior to the music, you could hear a pin drop. Awesome! This of course is rural/central Texas, so you'd be a fool to show the slightest ignorance of proper respect. One kid was running through the stands, and I saw some young woman grab him, turn him to the flag, and place his hand correctly. She wasn't any relation to him though. It was obvious by the shocked look on his face. This is the kind of respect I love to see. If you're getting depressed about this stuff come to almost any rural football game, and watch the pregame. You'll be happy again!

I recently began overseeing a new facility (for me). It is located in the windiest portion of the state. If it stops blowing it is news.
While spending all of my energy putting out fires on the ground I failed to look up. An old timer finally marched me to the flagpoles and pointed out the sad condition of our flag.
I noticed that we were neighbors to the VFW local and asked for their aid in retiring the flag. They were impressed enough to provide a replacement and a back up. I humbly gave credit to the gentleman who "reeducated" me. He was a member I later learned.
Now every morning I remember to check above also...again.

RKBA is a sympton of the problem and not the problem itself. The symbolism re the desecration of the flag, ala kids dragging it in the dirt... is yet another symptom of the same problems we are facing.

I think that the UN Flag gets shown WAY TO MUCH respect.. There should be a LAW that requires it to be burned on sight!

When in uniform, we adhere to the procedure when the Swiss flag is
raised.

If I happen to see a UN flag here, I'll salute it.

Call it the "Middle Finger" salute. And if I happen to have some
tracer ammo - here we go! :)

I am fully aware that the symbol is not the thing. The topic is irreverence to a symbol.
I value the symbol because I value those who through valor make the symbol valuable and deserving of respect by their willingness to sacrifice themselves...ultimately for me.
They endured hell. I merely take care of a piece of cloth in their honor. Pretty good trade.

Yeah I agree to the one finger salute for the UN flag.
Mr. Freeman My thoughts exactly and I could not have said it better ;)
