The Fall of Democracy

By Lord Thomas B. Macaulay, 1857

"A democracy cannot survive as a permanent form of government. It can last only until its citizens discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority (who vote) will vote for the candidates promising the greatest benefits from the public purse, with the result that a democracy will always collapse from loose fiscal policies, always followed by a dictatorship.

The average age of the world's greatest democratic nations has been 200 years. Each has been through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith.

From faith to great courage.

From courage to liberty.

From liberty to abundance.

From abundance to complacency.

From complacency to selfishness.

From selfishness to apathy.

From apathy to dependency.

And from dependency back again into bondage.
Can we escape this fate?"

I would say we are entering step 8, wouldn't you?

Can we escape this fate? No.

Can we slow it? Possibly.

CMOS :(

NRA? Good. Now join the GOA!

Isn't there a revolution step in there somewhere? The problem is that too many people THINK we're a Democracy instead of understanding what it means to be a constitutional republic.

The first step is registration, the second step is confiscation, the final step is subjugation.

I have learned this cycle several times through my study of history.
If one compares the USA to the Roman Empire, we are in the later stages, the begining of the fall. We have an out of control Senate and Excecutor, the dole/welfare, a military that is no longer up to par, and rampant apathy and ignorance. Further, Patriotism is veiwed as extreme and dangerous.

We will all live in interesting times.

The word "democracy," can not be found anywhere in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, or the writings of any of the Founding Fathers. The word, referring to our system of government, is constantly found: a Republic.

We are a Republic. In a Republic, there are unalienable Rights, which can not be voted away, or taken away, or even transfered.

In a democracy, mob rules. 50% plus one = the Law. I.e., Two voracious wolves and a lamb sit down and take a vote on what they're going to have for lunch. Majority rules, yum yum yum.

Long live our Republic. Screw democracy! J.B.
