The Fabulous Glock 21

Quality 1911's, the HK USP, and the Sig Sauer P220 are all great .45s.

But I just picked up what is quickly becoming my all time favorite handgun. The G21 is easily the most controllable gentle shooting .45 caliber pistol I've ever shot. The grip is rather thick but even with my small hands (7" from tip to wrist) I had great control shooting with one hand. Wonderfully accurate, imposing (even compared to my P220), reliable, and all the virtues of Glock. I haven't smiled this much at the range in a long time.

I don't like giving names to guns but I can't help naming it "Gentle Ben":D

Glad to hear that from a person with small to medium sized hands. It had been my experience that the G-21 is easy to shoot in part due to its large grip, which spreads the recoil over larger part of the hand. The blocky grip also makes realigning the pistol after each shot easier. Though my hands are on the smaller side (8" from tip to wrist and 4" wide) I favor larger grips like the G-21 and USP 45.

The G-21 is a favorite of mine too, I've had two so far and both were flawless in reliability. Congratulations on your selection.

Agreed

I agree with the two gentlemen in this thread that praise the Glock 21. The G21 accuracy is suberb (most accurate Glock I've shot), and the recoil is very mild. Mines been 100 percent reliable. For a long time, my Glock 21 use to be my favorite .45, until I tried and eventually bought the CZ 97B.

I still shoot the G21 often, and I feel very comfortable with 13+1 rounds of .45 ACP.

My G21 is my favorite (by far) in my collection of about 15 guns.

And I agree that there are some other fantastic guns out there (HK's, Sig's, 1911's) chambered for .45 ACP, but I'm glad Gaston made this model 'cause it's the one for ME! :D

I came VERY close to getting a Glock 21 at a gunshow I went to today...

Has Glock changed the design of the grip frame or something? New guns seem to be a LOT more comfortable in my hand that a friend's 21, which he bought about 4 years ago.

Glocks from that era would just tear the living hell out of my grip hand.

Grips on new Glocks are a 'tad' thicker and have finger grooves...that could explain the difference you felt.

Well unfortunatley I will have to start carrying a glock 21 agian. It did not work out for me at the department I got hired at a few months ago and I will be going back to my old department which issues Glock 21's. I will miss being able to carry my own personal 31.
