The Enemy of My Enemy and Working Together to Vote These People Out

We, and our hobbies, have been designated the enemy by the same politicians.

I have many interests outside of guns. Some of these interests are, off roading, dirt biking, Harleys and motorcycles in general, boating, public land access, Hunting (even though I have never hunted), fast cars, keeping taxes low and holding government accountable, keeping the internet free and unregulated, and many more. (I am not going to mention one group I belong to because it is too polarizing and will derail this thread.)

One thing that I have noticed since I was a kid; the people in all of these groups hate the same politicians. Sadly, most of these people are not engaged in politics and never do anything except complain. Many of them are VERY angry, some to the point of being unhealthy.

Many of the issues over lap but are not connected politically. Look at how many threads on different forums are complaining about the same politicians.

We need to organize a super PAC or better yet, form an alliance. Even if we don't care about or agree on the same issues; we can target politicians we all want out. We need to study the political landscape and band together to defeat the most vulnerable politicians who are causing us all harm.

This is hard to do and a lot of infighting will happen but we can all agree on something, what we are doing now is not working.

The most common reason I hear for people not doing anything is that they say they are outnumbered. Well, if your just a gun owner, or just a dirt biker, or just a (insert group here) you are. When you combine all these groups who have many intersecting interests and one core interest that defines them, (the hatred of the same politician) we out number the supporters by far.

Do these groups talk? I believe that approaching it in this way and showing numbers, more people would get involved.

Let's add up the numbers in these groups.

Video gamers, knife enthusiast, martial arts weapons enthusiasts, dirt bikers, small business supporters, motorcycle riders, off roaders, hunters, people who feel wronged by family court, red light camera haters, low tax advocates,

What other groups can we include?

What say you?

Sounds good in theory, but in practice, people like divisions, cliques and segregation of all varieties WAY too much to band together with people who are different from them in any pertinent way.

You see this even within the firearms "community". The shotgunners won't band with the rifle shooters, the long gun shooters look down on the pistol shooters saying that pistols aren't sporting, they're made for killing people. The revolver shooters call the semi-auto shooters names and the semi-auto shooters like to talk about how the revolver shooters are living in the past. The 1911 owners look down on the Glock owners and the Glock owners return the favor. If you go where people only shoot Glocks or only shoot 1911s, you'll see people getting into heated debates about WHICH 1911 or WHICH Glock is best and explaining why people who make different choices are mentally challenged.

People LIKE all that infighting and they LIKE feeling superior because they choose to do X or own Y while "those other idiots do W or own Z".

Politicians aren't stupid. They are generally smart enough not to hack off too many special interest groups all at once. They take us on a little piece at a time so that there won't be too much pushback that it gets out of hand.

More than likely, the vast majority of those cited above are already 2A and firearms friendly and on our side.

Sounds good in theory but in doesn't very often work in practice.

I have seen folks who agree on 99% of every issue separate based on the other 1%, more times than I care to remember.

Gun owners don't turn out to vote at any rate higher than the general population, and that's a shamefully small percentage.

Most are not politically active in any way. The guy at the gun show or on the internet can talk a big game, but when it's time to roll up the sleeves and get some work done, he's nowhere to be found.

This isn't limited to the gun culture. It applies to pretty much any political issue. We're lucky if we can get 5% of affected parties to show an interest that translates into the most simple and basic of actions.

99% may agree that so-and-so needs to be voted out, but that's not an option (other than in a rare recall vote). The normal way someone is voted out is by voting someone else in. But the group can't agree on who to vote in.

A big problem with this voting thing is, the one that has the seat and your trying to vote out his or her competitor that they put in to run is worse then the one that's there already.... So the same person keeps getting reelected.

It does indeed seem that voting has become a game of choosing the lesser of two evils rather than the better candidate. Most of the groups mentioned likely already support the 2A. That doesn't mean that they are politically active in any capacity though. A sickeningly small number of people actually vote in the presidential elections. I can only imagine that an even smaller number vote when it comes to state or local level elections.

Just because a person or group is a supporter of 2A does not make them my friend. I am glad when anyone agrees and votes as I do, but some of them would not be welcome in my home or would I fellowship with them

It's always been that way. The problem is not the integrity of politicians so much as it's ignorance and/or apathy on the part of voters.

I have a few benchmarks I run a candidate through when I'm considering him, and 2A support isn't the only one. How they stand on civil liberties in general is important as well.

Emo Phillips says:
Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, "Don't do it!" He said, "Nobody loves me." I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in God?"

He said, "Yes." I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?" He said, "A Christian." I said, "Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?" He said, "Protestant." I said, "Me, too! What franchise?" He said, "Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?" He said, "Northern Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"

He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region." I said, "Me, too!"

Northern Conservative†Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912." I said, "Die, heretic!" And I pushed him over.

A hunting club i belong to, which is one of the more politically active in the state, just had their yearly bike ride. I think it was supposed to be one of the biggest events they have. There is a lot of overlap and work toward common goals eve if not organized. Piranhas don't bite each other.

Wasn't it Julius Caesar who came up with "Divide and conquer?"
