The elephant

I have been reading all of your posts for quite a while now and I find them informative and enlightening.
There is something I have been wondering about lately; who will be the first to speak of the elephant in the room? It is obvious to all who wish to see it that our rights as recognized by the constitution are being eroded exponentialy.
My questions are these: Do you believe things will turn around or continue to get worse? If things continue to get worse, will we have to do something about it?
If it got much worse would we, as Americans (most TFL) allow our country to become like a modern European socialist country? Is this what our founding fathers really had in mind?

Hate to say this, but my money is on it getting much worse.

I think too many of my fellow Americans (TFL members excluded, of course) generally don't give a damn about reality, history, economics, the Constitution or anything other than the TV show they're watching tonight, the latest fashions / music, their mutual fund balance, and professional wrestling. Most of life is just work and games to people, I believe. Very few think seriously about real issues.

Sure, it's an exaggeration ... but not as bad as it should be. The latest Clinton scandals have made it pretty clear to me. If the polls are indeed right, I'm more than a little disappointed about the direction of this 'club' I'm in.

I tend to think we'll have to have a disastrous economy before people really question what is happening. Unfortunately, the last time that happened we got more socialism (Roosevelt). I honestly don't know if there will ever be a way to recapture the repect and passion for freedom and personal responsibility we evidently had in the late 18th century. Hope I'm wrong.

When I clicked on this thread Iwas really afraid I was going to see a rec.guns/TomBowers post about "Who has seen the "elephant"...

WEll, I got the next best thing, I guess... ;)

BadDog,

Thanks for the kind words about TFL and our posts. You have probably noticed that we don't spend too much time on conjecture. We try to be a pro-active, positive, educational, and (at times) entertaining group of gun enthusiasts. If you look through the threads (especially in Legal/Poli) again, you'll see that many of us are about fed up with the encroachment of Big brother on our personal freedoms. Still, most of us prefer not to "talk" about what we will do or what might happen. We prefer to try to Do things to keep things from getting any worse. There are at least two threads, "fighting back" & "USA Today", that will give you an idea of the things we are prepared to do to help make things get better, not worse. I hope you will join us or propose other, productive and positive action.

BadDog,

We, as citizens, have the choice. We can choose to spend sweat, tears, and treasure now to change the downward course. Or we can wait, do nothing, and spend blood, sweat, tears, and treasure later when things are much worse.

You'll notice the Big difference about waiting is the BLOOD part. We would all prefer to avoid that one, if possible.

Read the posts Rob talked about - even though the second one mentioned is a shameless promotion of his own brilliantly inspired gun owners Declaration of Independence. (I still get misty every time I read it)

Seriously, Rob, how do you put those little winky, smiley faces on these messages?
