The Dwyer Group Griiper

Was planning on getting one of these for an otherwise stock Colt GM. Is there any advantage to the kit with the full length guide rod?
The gun is mostly used for enjoyment and the occasional informal match (hence the need for more accuracy).

I have used both in the past. I found that the only thing the full length rod gave me was a headache. It makes field-stripping more difficult because the rod has to be screwed down tight or it will work its way out of the gun when it is most inconvenient. Once you have it screwed down tight enough to prevent that, it won't come apart when you need it to so you can clean the gun. The standard Group Gripper was my prefered replacement part. (It's less expensive too. )

I've had one of these in one of my 1911s for years. It's a cheap way to greatly improve accuracy in an otherwise stock gun. Second the comment about keeping the guide rod screwed down TIGHT - it will work loose otherwise. However, you don't really have to take it apart to disassemble the gun. I never do. Does make getting the barrel out of the slide a bit trickier but not really a problem once you do it a few times.
