The Dragoon thread

Let's see the dragoons. Post your favorite(s) in your collection, big and small.
This is my trusty Walker (Uberti). I bought it new in 1991 and it has been nothing but a joy to own and shoot since it arrived. And on this one, maybe I got lucky, but the loading lever has never dropped during a shot, even with the big fun loads.

I have a 1st or 2nd model on my wish list, but I have two questions before I decide:
1) Was the change from oval slot to rectangular on the cylinder to fix a problem, or just easier to manufacture? And
2) Was there an issue with the "V" hammer spring, and why was it changed to a flat spring?

I have never had trouble with either, but I only have experience with the one Walker.

Any cylinder with just oval stops can possibly allow the cylinder to jump past a chamber if it is cocked too briskly, causing scaring to the cylinder and possible damage to the slot.

I learned this on my Rogers & Spencer too well- since there is no lead in's cut into the notches, it skipped every time I tried to cock it briskly in the first match I tried to use it in. I slowed down and didn't have any more problems.

Walker, Dragoon and wannabe

Walker and two Dragoons all from ASM. The top dragoon is from BP Revolver's collection.

The bottom one is the L and R dragoon wannabe.

My Walker and my 1st model Dragoon. The Rolling block was there when I took the photo....I have Kirst cylinders for both and shoot .45 Colt reloads.:D

Aww, I don't have one yet, but on April 6th, I'll be in Ponderay, Idaho to grab one from Buffalo Arms (along with a few pounds of holy black!)

That'll be a fine road trip!

So, I gotta' ask, "You gonna' pull them pistols or whistle Dixie?"
Just wonderin' :)
Nice looking collection, I've got 1 dragoon, these pistols are huge, it's one of my favorites though.

Do ya' tie down those holsters below the knee caps :D ... and need a good set of 'spenders' to hold up them hoglegs.....

Nice looking guns guys. Out shooting my ROA the other day and really enjoyed it. I cheat a bit and use 40g of 777 instead of the real stuff ... but still fun! The bug has bit again I think....

yeah me too, I'm jealous. Very nice lookin hand artillery fellas!!! Everytime I walk into Sportsmans warehouse that dang 3rd Model stares me in the face!!!! :D We went in there the other day to get some stuff and I was standing at the case looking at it. And SWMBO comes over and takes me by the hand and leads me over to the BP shooting stuff and says "honey THIS is what you came in here for" LOL That woman keeps my head on straight sometimes :D

I took my Walker out yesterday and it occurred to me that I have an ongoing complaint with it...the balls and bullets seem to "stick" inside the cone of the loading ram- it's just too deep and tapered. Are the loading rams on the new ones the same as the older ones, as mine dates to the early 1980's IIRC. Am I the only one that has had problems with this? I guess I'll just drill and put a turned piece of brass in there to fill it up and make it more like the profile of an 1860 ram.

I don't have a problem if I load them on a stand though.

Here's my Uberti Walker and 3rd Model Dragoon. Love 'em both!

Mine is a 1991 and it has never done that with balls or buffalo bullets either. But then, I do use .454 balls with it. :)

Here's my Uberti Walker. Bought it second hand. It was a kit that someone else built and "aged." It was pretty rough. I had to take a lot of the brown down, rub sanding marks off the cylinder, and polish the casting marks out of the trigger guard, strip and refinish the grips (still need to age them a bit), etc. She's a shooter, though.

Have to take a new pic of my two 2nd Model Dragoons.
