Recently got one of the new CZ97B .45ACP "American" Models. I Recently got one of the new CZ97B .45ACP "American" Models. Ijust got back from my second shooting session.
The CZ97 has a manual safety and can be carried cocked & locked like a Model 1911 Colt or you can carry it with the hammer down and fire the first shot double action
It is about the same size and weight as a full size 1911 Goverenment Midel. It has ten shot magazines which gives you eleven shots with one in the chamber.
I have fired 600 shots with it so far, 300 rounds of FMJ and 300 rounds of hollow points with no malfunctions. Groups got tighter as I shot it. Probally because I am getting used to the trigger pull on a new pistol. Double action trigger was fine. Single action trigger pull has a little slack before it fires. This made accurate rapid fire a little tricky, but I think I can get used to it.
My preliminary evalution is that it is an outstanding pistol, better than the Glock or the H&K, or the Smith& Wessons in the sme caliber.
The CZ97Bs are currently selling for $550 to $600. One spare magazine came with the pistol. Additional spare magazines are available.just got back from my second shooting session.

"My preliminary evalution is that it is an outstanding pistol, better than the Glock or the H&K, or the Smith& Wessons in the sme caliber."

That's a mighty subjective claim. Have you done side by side comparisons with a SIG Sauer P220, HK USP and Glock 21 to arrive at this conclusion? I'm not trying to flame, I'm just curious.

CZ97s run about $450 from J&G Sales and they can be had for a little less at large shows. Factory mags run about $30.

So many pistols, so little money.

I looked these over a while back.

Its a chunk of a pistol, not really in the same size class as the sveldt 1911, IMHO. Good ergonomics for a big gun (I've only held one, not shot). I'm sure that steel frame does wonders for recoil control.

Hmmm, a lot of people are finding the CZ97 to be a big gun. To me it felt lighter than my 1911 and had a more ergonimic grip than a Sig 220 or Glock 30/21. It seemed like a good design for shooting a .45, not overly clunky. Just my opinion...

Tecolote:
I have test fired the Glock .45 ACP and the SIG-Sauer P220. (In fact I have a p220) Have not fired the H&KK but have examined and dry fired one.one.

Based on my test firing to date I standby my opinion though I realize it is subjective.

I held the CZ97B and the Witness.45. I ended up getting the Witness, as it was smaller in the hand. I believe both are fine handguns. Mike

You're right, it is subjective. Perhaps the CZ fits your hand better and this improves your accuracy with it. CZ maks fine pistols. I'm sure you'll get years of fun from it.
