The current 'Gun control' push: A cop's eye view by Massad Ayoob

I shouldn't, but I'll save this one from The Fate of All Drive-bys. In the article linked above, Mas lays out some of the reasons why he believes the law enforcement community does not (& should not) support gun control. He also points out why many police chiefs are seen to support gun control, while sheriffs are not, and why street-level police do not.

It is a good read.

That is a good piece and ties in with the earlier thread on messaging to anti-gun , or shall we say weapon averse, people.
The poll results from policeone.com are very useful when countering the "police want gun control" arguments.

Ayoob makes a great point at the beginning:

You'll have to look long and hard to find, among the ranks of the prohibitionists, anyone who has actually taught a firearms safety class. Since 1871, the leading firearms safety training entity in the United States and probably the world has been the National Rifle Association, an organization which has been venomously demonized by those who would now usurp all they've done to further the disarming of American citizens.

He also does a great job of pointing out why we see such a gulf in support between sheriffs and chiefs.
