THE carry revolver

It's not tactical, it's not black, it has no accessory rails...but I'd be hard pressed to name a better carry gun.

Ever since I passed my Performance Center M13 on to Tamara, I've been looking for another M13 or M65 with a 3" heavy barrel. Finally, an afternoon visit to the gunstore yielded the jackpot in the used gun case. A used M65, 3"HB, round butt...the stainless version of the M13. Well used, but not abused, and just a hair over $200. (Ever notice how hard to find those 3" K-frames are on the used market?)

Anyway, it's my new carry gun, relegating the 686 with the 2 1/2" barrel to "spare carry gun" duty. If there's a better balance of power, concealability, and versatility, I haven't found it yet.

Yup, keeping the hammer spur. The hammer and trigger are flash-chromed on the pre-MIM models, and it'd be a bear to refinish the hammer after chopping it.

Been carrying one over two years now no complaints :) Especially like it since my holy grail quest for the perfect grips ended (Ahrends).

Nice gun and holster, but I am not jealous cause I got my 13 3"hb round butt a couple of weeks ago. When are you going to get some wood and what kind, even my basic magnas are better than BF Goodyears.

Blue duck what do your Ahrends look like and what was the cost.
I would like to get some boot grips like Eagles or Spegels

Nice Detective Special speedloader.

Now, now, Mike...you know that the HKS speedloaders for the Dick Special (Size DS-A) and the K-frame Smiths (Size 10-A) are dimensionally identical. They just have different markings.

Blue duck what do your Ahrends look like and what was the cost.

Cost less than $60 from Brownells. My dig-cam and myself are not getting along at the moment and the pic at brownells is of the J frame which is very different.

There are lots of pics of them at the S/W forum but they are shut down in tribute to 9-11, when they get back up I'll try to post a link.

Best,

Blueduck

Edit: Wait heres a pic on Waynes 24 (last pic on this page). Have to adjust a little for the smaller size of the K/L grips but at least gives you an idea till S/W's back up.

Yeah, but what about me?!

Lendringser,

That is one great looking 65! Now, you probably need to sell me your PC-640! I don't mind defraying your recent purchase cost! Quid pro quo?:)

docbones,

You gotta be faster than that, man. :D

(I'm assuming you mean this one? ;) )

Ohhh, my aching head!

Tamara,

I am getting dizzy and nauseated. I think that is my revolver, yes, the same one promised me by Lendringser some months ago. I think I just need to lay down!:) I think I am just a little sickypooh!

Don't you love the little revos, regardless of the config? I was lucky to find a few good ones.

Happy Shooting,

Docbones

You know, if that was a 6 shot 45 caliber pistol in that size.. it MIGHT be perfect. Pretty close though. Good looking wheelgun. If I could find a steal like that I would have bought it too.

carry gun

IMO the bulk of a revolver is in the length of grip.
If not carried in a pocket the barrel length may be up to 4 ".
My carry ( and universal ) gun ( under restricted Austrian law which allows normally the possession of two handguns ) is a 4"GP100 with a shortened grip.

3 inch K

I think the 13 or 65 3 incher is perfect for a CCW revolver. At 200 bucks, I would buy a boatload, as I don't EVER see any on the used market. Closest I've seen is some police trade in 4 inch square butt 65s. I had a 3 inch L-frame that I carried for a while, I think it was tagged CS-1 (allegedly a Customs Service over-run). The L was great with magnum loads, but a bit heavy compared to the snub 19 I sold to buy the 686. The only thing that beats what you posted is the PC one that Moderator Tamara posts and refers to (liberated from your collection, I gather). I have seen pics of that gun dozens of times, but I keep pulling it up and looking at it every time I hear it mentioned. That gun, a few boxes of 125 grainers or even .38 158+P, a good holster, and I would be a happy man again.

Jeez, you guys are killin' me with these 3" model 13/65's!! I can't find one here in Seattle to save my life (yes, I am looking). They gotta be the ultimate in CCW revolvers. I still thinks tam's M-13 is the sweetest. Sigh-envy-sigh.:(
