I thought I would pass this info along. Blake Stevens book on the BHP is back in print with a 2014 limited Edition.

It is a little pricey at $69 but there have been times were used copies were only available for $100+. I am not sure how long this run was or how many copies were printed but if you ever thought of picking this book up I would do it now.

I did find a seller on EBay who was selling it NIW for $50 shipped. Not sure how many copies they had for sale so it might be worth looking around.

Considered to be one of the best BHP reference books ever! Check it out...

It is difficult to call that pricey when it is so good and has no equal. When I bought my copy of the first edition in 1987 the cost was not terribly different.

I've never been disappointed with a book from the publisher... but I've only bought 17 of them thus far. I do wish they had sample pages posted on the website for people to get a sense of the books. They are so different from most other firearms books in style and content that some folks may get something different from what they were expecting. If you are looking for a history of design development, production, and technical data, however, you will be getting the best information available in a quality binding.

I agree. I've spent more on Colt pubs and books than I have on actual (cheap mind you) firearms. When you collect specific firearms or brands the compendium resource books are completely worth it IMO.

I completely agree that it is a great reference and almost a must have for a BHP collector/hobbyist but for many people $50 for a book is a lot. Some people balk at $50 for a pistol mag. I guess it is all relative and a matter of prospective.

When I first started collecting, an old timer told me to buy a book every time I bought a gun. Not necessarily a book about that gun, but a book on guns, and the best quality book I could find. At that time, there were very few gun books and few gun magazines. The only magazines were the American Rifleman and Guns, which had just started with some good articles by knowledgeable people. Too bad, but its articles have lately become riddled with errors and it has deteriorated into "how I hunted with my daddy" articles; I dropped my subscription.

Gun books were almost non-existent, and quality, well-researched books were very rare. The only good ones I can recall off hand were the books by Melvin Johnson and W. H. B. Smith. There was the Gun Digest, which at that time had some good articles; lately it too has gone to the "how I hunted with daddy" level. Too bad.

On the money side, my copy of Pistole Parabellum by Görtz and Sturgess cost me $300; my first Luger cost me exactly 1/10 of that.

I'm thankful you posted this thread.

My own copy of this book is a first edition from 1984. So I just went for the Limited Edition re-print with the updated info. Good price for what you get.

As useful as the internet is there is no replacement for well researched and vetted books.

I have not seen the new edition. But I wouldn't expect that it does, not in any depth anyway.

The book is geared to the development and production history of the P35. The different variations of the gun produced and different manufacturers. It is well illustrated and is one of the better books on the HP for folks who collect them or are interested in their history.

To get an idea of this click on the link posted above to collector grade publications. You can also go to Amazon and read the reviews of the book there.

The best book for shooters are Stephen Camps books on the BHP. which you can order direct from his widow.

I thought the Forum was inactive, fortunately for us, it is not.

Yessir, Steve's Forum 'High Powers and Handguns' is an exchange of concise first hand information.

When he offers an opinion, he makes it plain that it is, in fact, an opinion.

Its well worth your time to occasionally pay a visit and stay awhile.
