The best survival rifle

Gonna be a lot of answers(if the thread is allowed to stay open). Really though it is the one you have on you. Unless you set out and plan to get caught in a situation that would require a survival rifle you won't know when you need it.

I always figured the access to ammo should be the prime reason for any choice like that. My choice is a single shot 223 with a chamber insert to shoot 22 lr, lots of ammo for both.

John "Pondoro" Taylor said "I would undertake to walk through from Cape Town to Cairo with a .22 rifle and a bag full of cartridges and a powerful handgun and never go hungry or feel in danger."

Ruger 10/22 --- maybe not the best but ammo is ubiquitous. Tens of thousands of rounds can be purchased without breaking the bank and stored safely. More deer have been killed with a .22LR than any other cartridge truth be told.

A scout CZ 452 in 22lr, cheap ammo, light ammo, light gun, and short (a normal length would be ok though), ultra reliable, and reasonably quiet.

It depends what your surviving from, are you stuck in the bush, hiding from zombies, or hiding from Al quaeda.

I would want a rifle that has plentiful ammo available. If we are looking at survival in a society break down situation I would like either a 223 or 308 as both rounds could be used for hunting and personal defense. Also, the ammo is plentiful, and unlike 22lr, it can be reloaded. Although I do have my trust 22lr with plenty of ammo stocked up.

Savage Model 24, 22/410.

Kind of partical to this rifle because I spent my first two winters in Alaska in a little cabin north of Healy, laid off and this gun, plus light fishing gear, was what kept my family fed.

What does everybody think of the AR-7 rifle, which is a semi-auto in stainless that folds up into its own stock? Floats, too, if I remember right.

Due to the amount of ammo you could carry with you, it's really hard to make a case against a .22lr. It can certainly take game and let's face it, no one wants to get shot, even by a .22lr.

An AR15,,, you can break it into two parts,, put it in a bag,,
Mags and parts are available,,, it is a good gun,,, all around,

you can build it into many configurations, as your needs dictate, buy a real,, gun,,
Don’t go cheap on Survival

An AR15, with a quad rail and a refrigerator attachment. But seriously, I'd pick my ar. 223 and 6.8 spc. Can take any game, large cap mags and plenty of ammo.
