The best Revolversmith?

In your opinion, who is the best living revolversmith for doing action work on a S&W??

I have tried some real nice ones, but who do you wheelgunners think is THE BEST at doing a silky smooth, yet reliable action job.

If they are an "unknown" please include contact information.

Bill Laughridge at www.cylinder-slide.com or actually any of the pistolsmiths that work there.

Not sure how you are defining "best", but I can say that these guys are honest, fairly priced, do world class work, and their turn around time isn't really that long (4 months last time I was there).

Good Luck...

I would vote for Alan Tanaka (Gardena, Calif). His prices are reasonable, his turnaround relatively quick (1-2months) for most jobs, and his action jobs light and reliable (even the new models have double actions in the mid 7 pound range and single action at any reasonable weight). He has done a number of guns for John Pride.

Keep in mind that while all of these guys are still alive, at least to the best of my knowledge, getting some who are "semi-retired" to do work for you may be difficult...

MY list would be:

Ron Power
Lou Ciamillo
Jack Weigand
Alan Tanaka
Jim Stroh
Scott Mulkerin

I'd like to second Turtle Bob's comments above regarding Teddy Jacobson. He's worked on and vastly improved my:

S&W 342PD
S&W 610
Ruger GP-100

Greetings,
The S&W 629 3" .44 mag. shown below is an example of the fine work done by Victor Tibbets,
http://www.classichandguns.com/

I had him do a trigger job, meld the entire gun, polish the trigger, dovetail the front sight for an Ashley Bigdot, deepen the muzzle crown, recut the forcing cone, chamfer the cylinder holes, set cylinder gap/endshake, and finish in NP3.

The double action is at 6 lbs. by my electonic trigger guage, and has a completely linear pull. Single action is a 2 lbs. but "feels" like 2 oz.
