The best handgun ever (for me...)

It's finally happened. The die is cast- alia iacta est. My holy grail of handguns is - the SIG P 220. Nothing else in the pantheon of sidearms quite measures up in terms of accuracy, reliability, build quality, ergonomics, and pride of ownership:) . For me, this SIG does everything I can expect a handgun to do with such grace and finesse that I could retire the rest of my handgun battery and never want for anything...

...Now what do I do?

Get another?

Glad to hear it

I know people who have been into the shooting sports for years and have yet to find the "one" handgun that really fits them. It's kind of sad, really. Some of these guys have spent and lost a fortune looking for their "perfect pistol." I remember one LEO in particular who must have bought or traded for a different handgun every 4 to 6 weeks and was never satisfied.

The truth was, at least for him, he couldn't shoot very well. He was looking for a handgun that enabled him to become an instant master shooter. We told him several times that what he really needed to do was spend the money on practice ammo and lots of range time. To the best of my knowledge, he never did.

Now that you've found yours the only thing to do is keep getting better with it! Also, you answered your own question: Absolutely buy another one and keep it as a backup/spare. Some day it may be next to impossible to replace your SIG.

I know, I know, semi forum. But you said best ever. Mine is a 21/4" sp101 357 mag. I can group it almost as tight as my 91/2" 44 mag SRH at 100 yrds. This little fact got me a steak dinner at my dads expense.:D

My personal The Best Pistol Ever Built is my Glock model 34... and, yes, I have more than one.

By all means, buy anohter P220. :D

Correction

It's not "alia iacta est" it's "alea iacta est" additionally most historians believe the line was spoken in Greek (those who believe it was spoken at all). Also, a better translation is "Let the dice roll"

Though I agree it's a very, very fine weapon.

I feel the same way about my Glock 21. Lots of people don't care for Glock's in the least, but that gun fits me like ol' Gaston used my hand for a mold.

Best gun combines many features

My perfect gun for me would be a Glock 23 with a 1911-style thumb safety, the sights from S&W Mod 66, the transfer bar from a Ruger Blackhawk, the grip of a Broomhandle Mauser and ....... never mind. ;)

When I saw "die" and "cast" in the same sentance, I thought you were gonna tell us you got a Jennings. :D

vanfunk, I'm with you on this one; the Sig
P220 is definitely my choice of the ultimate,
only one handgun; as I have been preaching
here on TFL since August of 99.:D
