The Best double barrel "coach gun"

I realize that this could also fit in the Cowboy Action Shooting Section, but I thought I might bend the ear of all you Shotgun Experts. I'm looking for a good sxs hammerless double barrel shotgun with a barrel of 18 to 20 inches. I've looked at the IGA Stoeger Coachgun, a russian made Baikal Bounty Hunter II and a turkish made gun (tri arms or something???). What are your impressions of these guns? Also, would I just be better off to buy an old used Stevens sxs and have it sawed off? Any input you all have would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to give me ANY info you might have on short barreled sxs's. Thanks for your help.

Yelp Bob, your'e right you should have asked the cowboys down in the other forum. There's a thread going right now discussing coach guns that will probably answer your questions. I learned of one there that has inspired me to buy one myself and I wasn't even looking for one. TFL's dues are low but the site can cost a person a fortune. So many guns, so little money. :D

We live in a time in which attitudes and deeds once respected as courageous and honorable are now scorned as being antiquated and subversive.

Should I get hammerless or "rabbit ears"?
Can they use slugs or 00 buck?
Any choke tube models?
Cowboy style not a requirement; how about a stainless model with synthetic stock for anti-piracy defense on a boat? Should be a lot shorter and more maneuverable than a pump.

Teach a non-shooter to shoot. Educate a voter.

I purchased a Savage/Stevens model 5100 several weeks ago at a gun show. It was cut down to legal limits and totaly refinised.
Really made a nice Coach gun. But I understand that to be a true coach gun it must be hammered? This one is hammerless and the gentleman that had this one done used it at cowboy shoots.
For what its worth :)
Happy Shooting :)

loknload,

A "Coachgun" is simply a short barreled SxS shotgun-internal or external hammers. A lot of cowboy shooters use cut-down Stevens and Lefevers like yours.

Bill, That is what I always thought also, and to me that is what it is. Whoever did the work on this one really did a nice job. I'm pleased with it even though I haven't tried it yet.

Happy Shooting :)
