The best compact 9mm all-around pistol

Consider the SIG P228, HKP7M8, Glock 19, USP Compact, Beretta Centurion, Kahr MK9 and Colt Pocket 9. I would say the G19 is the best in term of firepower, accuracy and durability.

What are your opinions? :D :D :D

Having owned the Beretta Centurion and Mini Cougar , Glock 19 , Sig 228 and still owning the Kahr MK9 and 2 Sig 239's , I would pick the 239 as my all time favorite 9mm . It is , I believe , the best out there right now in terms of quality , accuracy and reliability in a concealable package [but the Glock 19 is a close second] . Good luck , Mike...

you left out one of the most underrated compact pistols made. the Beretta 92 Compact L. i have shot several of these and i really liked them. they are sugnificantly smaller than the full sized 92 and also smaller than the Centurion. the shortness in grip, slide and barrel length really help in concealing it. also its as accurate and reliable as the full sized 92. I would have bought one but it just didn't feel right in my hand. it felt a bit chunky but thats just with me and i have small hands.

however the 92 Compact L is not the answer to your question i was mearly stating another alternative choice.

i would also like to point out that your guns range from nearly full sized to sub-compact. the Beretta Centurion is nearly the same size as the 92 and isn't that good for a carry gun. the colt pocket 9 and Kahr MK9 are 2 of the smallest 9mm pistols made. i think you should have made it a Kahr K9. also as Mike Baugh said the sig 239 is anothe good choice.

now i will atempt to answer your quesion but of course it will only be IMHO. i personally like the Glock 19 over any other 9mm pistol whether it be compact or full sized. i would carry my G19 on duty if i was an LEO and if i carried concealed i would also take my G19 everywhere i go. its the perfect size for any task. little enough to hide easily but big enough for sufficient firepower and easy handling. also the G19 is one of the most reliable and durable pistols made. and at least for me is very accurate.

close seconds would be sig 228, HK USP-C, HK P7, and Kahr K9. i like all these guns but i can't hide the 228 and USP-C as easily as the G19. i remember comparing the G19 to the 228 when i was considering buying both and i though it would have trouble concealing the 228 if i had to. its much bigger than the G19 and weights a lot more. the USP-C is a pretty chunky gun and has a wide slide which might also be hard for me to conceal. the P7 is an excellent gun but i don't like the squeeze cocker. i think the trigger is too light after it is taken off safe. as for the K9 i have never even seen one but i can image liking it very much if i did since i hear great things about it.

oh and the G19 and beretta Centurion are tied for the most firepower: 15+1 rounds of 124gr+P Gold-Dots.

however the G19 is much smaller than the Centurion.

Well, with non-Gelded magazines priced like imported sin, suddenly the P7M8 is back in the thick of the running. In the summertime, my P7M8 sees a fair amount of carrying. In the winter, a ride home from my job on my motorcycle at 2 am in 20-30 degree temps and then straight into a warm apartment meant oiling the H&K was a nightly thing. Of course, the 9mm nature of this question eliminated the other reason my P7 got supplanted: 2 more rounds of a much more powerful caliber in a lighter gun that's no bigger and is oblivious to the vagaries of weather? Makes my G29 and G33 no-brainer carry choices...

10mm: It's not the size of the Dawg in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog!

So far, the steel Kahr K9. In the running, the newest plastic P9. The G19 would have to be a close "also-ran", though I've never owned one.

Not to demean any of the above, but you all left out the Walther P99. I love the Glocks (though I prefer my 23 to the 19), as well as the Sigs (again, my 229 over the 228), but the P99 holds 16+1 rounds of 9mm compared to the 19's 15+1 and the 228's 13+1 in a package the same size. It also has a smaller (and IMO) more comfortable grip. Oh, and it's used by the British Secret Service!!! (at least, in the movies it was).

I have to agree with Mike, the Sig 239 is
one of the most accurate reliable compacts
on the market. The fact that it almost
disappears in a quality IWB holster is just
icing on the cake.

The best is, of course, the Glock Model 19... for me!

The Kahr is too heavy for it's size and capacity, the Sig is too un-ergonomic (for me), the HK P7's manual of arms is too unusual, the USP has a lousy mag release (IMO), the Beretta has a poorly positioned safety (for me), and the Colt was made in too small numbers to have ready parts/accessory availbility.

Make mine lean, mean, and 9x19!

Anyone own or shot the Beretta Type M, single stack?
Seems like a good answer for someone that likes the 92, but has smallish hands?
Do they make a Type M in .40 for those that aren't comfortable with "only" 9rds of 9x19?

So far I have an sw99,Sig P228 and a Kahr K9 Elite. Though I'd never ever give up the Sig,in my hand the K9 comes alive. Some weapons just transcend reality. It's all in how you feel I guess. How many of you 1911ers feel you have Thor's Hammer in your gun cabinet? :)

Kframe, no beretta does not make the Type M in .40cal. its only made in 9mm. if you're interested in it you might want to check out the Custom Carry 2. it has some added features that the Custom Carry 1 has but is based on the Type M instead of the Compact L.

Political correctness aside, the Smith & Wesson 3913TSW is the best compact 9mm that I have ever fired and I've fired Glocks, Sigs, Kahrs & Berettas. The trigger is as smooth as glass. It is accurate, reliable and kicks like a .380ACP even when firing hot 9mm loads because of how the pistol is designed.

For those that want to throw flames, the company did a bad thing and should not be given future support until they get out of the agreement but that doesn't change the quality of the gun. Don't knock it unless you first tried it.
