The "BEST" compact 45 Cal??

Best?

I don't know if there is such a thing as the "best" .45 compact carry gun. What works for some won't work as well for others. Glock, Kimber, Springfield, etc. all make great models. Try them all if you can and then decide.

By putting in "weight" and "durability", you lead me to suggest either the SIG P245 or the Glock G36.

The *&* CS45 is a dark horse in this class.

I'm surprised at you Tamara!! You already have the best... Glock 30!!!

BTW FD, the best compact .45ACP is the Glock 30, hands down, period.

denfoote;

I have a compact 1911 that's the bee's knees, too. ;) The reason I mentioned the G36 instead of the G30 was that he mentioned carryability and weight, both of which categories the G36 has an edge over its chubbier sibling in.

FAT IS WHERE IT'S AT!

If you want a Glock. They're well over 1" thick! Talk about a lump on youir hip! 1911s are only about .975" thick.

I've been carrying an Officer's Model for some four years now. It rides in a Milt Sparks Versa Max II, tucked in under my shirt. Mine is all steel, but if you're not planning on shooting it extensively, an alloy frame will work fine.

Although I currently carry the OM, I plan on switching to a "compact" model with a four inch barrel. (My daughter has laid claim to the OM when she turns 21, next year.) The reason? I have found that the slightly longer slide presses against my hip and forces the butt of the grip closer into my side for better concealment. And the ultra compact models (barrel < 3.5") tend to have reliability problems with most defense loads.

Pampers,

check out the stats on the G36; it's far thinner at 1.13" than the G30 and slightly thinner than even the baby Glocks G26/G27.

I agree that the G30 is a bit chubby; one of the main reasons why I don't own a G30 yet is that the .45/10mm Glocks are a bit too wide in the slide for my taste, but I'd love to get a G36 as one of my next gun purchases.

The best compact 45 cal?

Simply put, the one that goes bang all the time when the trigger is pulled.
There are some fine ones out there, but it all subjective. If you can fire some at the local range before you buy, I highly recommend it. Many of them have totally different handling characteristics than others. If your life depends on it, as yours probably wil, I would NOT buy the cheapest one I could find. Get a good brand name. Good luck.

I dunno, Pampers, I'm sitting here looking at my V-10 Springfield and my G30.

I'd carry either, (and do carry both frequently at work), but I gotta hand it to the Glock for stuffing 10 rounds and a longer barrel into a lighter package that's roughly the same size.

Knoxville, eh? Have you been by our shop?

If I found the G30 too chubby for carry (which I don't) I would opt for a Compact 1911 from either Kimber or Springfield Armory over the G36. But that's totally personal preference. I'm planning to acquire a G30 in the not so distant future. It'll serve as an alternative to my 1911A1 Commander and IMO the better compact 45 due to it's ammo capacity.

I'm not confident enough in the Para-Ordinance line based on prior experiences with one of their compact models that gave me fits to consider them an option. I vote for the Glock model 30. Gaining 3-4 more additional rounds, I can live with a relatively lite pistol that may have a little more chubiness. My wife does. :D

The BEST is the one that fits YOU the BEST.
My Best could be your WORST.

Find and try all the ones your interested in and then determine your own Best.

How about an H&K USP?

Havent seen it mentined yet...

Perhaps not as small as some, the H&K USP45c is lightweight, carries 8 rounds and is extremely reliable.

A little pricey, but a fine, fine handgun.

My Kimber Ultra Carry works best for me but then I'm used to 1911 pistols. Very reliable, light and accurate. From it's 3.1" barrel I get 760fps from Remington 230gr FMJ and 990fps from 165gr Federal Personal Protection ammo at 10 feet.
