The best .308 long range rifle under $600

I have always been a "pistol man", but I am getting into rifles now.
I am considering a long range heavy barrel .308 bolt gun.
At this time i am looking at:
1. Savage 10FP
2. Sig STR 970
3. Ruger M77V or VLE

I will consider other options as well.

Any suggestions?

If you shop around, you will be able to find a Steyr SBS ProHunter for $600 or less. Excellent rifle. I have two. Well, one is the ProHunter Mountain, and the other a Tactical HB.

Remington VS's go for under $600 around here. I'd put it up against most. They'll shoot one-hole groups, all day long.

I love my Rem 700 VS. Here is a picture of me and my baby on the 1000 yard line. I host a 385-10x the first time I ever shot the match. I am not that great of a shooter, but that gun along with a Leupold 6.5x20 scope made me one. Go with the Rem 700 VS in .308. You can use it for everything.

I'd go for the Savage. Great gun and you can get it and a good trigger job for it cheaper than any of the others!

I'll put in a vote for the Tikka Continental 595 in .308, mine is an excellent rifle, and it has a fabulous factory trigger.
