The Baby Eagle...

Hey, all...

I'm considering picking up a Baby Eagle in a couple of weekends, and although I've formed a few germ-opinions about them, I'd like to hear from folks who already own them and have put in time with them both at the range and on the bench.

Any little twitches, glitches, or snags to the design? Anything particularly sweet about it? What do YOU like about it, what do you hate? Is it worth the $500-600 they're going for, in your opinion?

Thanks for any response!

Hi there,

There are a couple of recent threads on the topic, here is one:

Which BE are you considering?

I believe $499 is the retail for just about the entire BE line, I got mine for considerably less than that NIB.

So, a BE is probably cheaper and better than what you thought. :D

FWIW, at the gunshow last weekend in Houston, NIB baby eagle all-metal guns were going for about $310-$399 from the different vendors. The ones with plastic frames were marked $399 or so, too.

Let me just say that IMI would be on top of the sales charts with this pistol if it wasn't for the dumbarse name.
American sportsmen, shooters, and LEOs really don't want to drop large jack on something named "Baby" unless Baby is a blonde with a cup size of a "C" or greater. Baby Eagle is however a great pistol. One thing I like about it... the shape of the dust cover & muzzle. Give the gun a sleak and agressive look. A design change from the normal CZ patern, but a good one.
They should seriously consider going back to the Jericho name. This gun was originally imported as the Jericho 941. The Jericho was beloved by all who touched it. It was just marketed very poorly. Instead of promoting it as a 9MM they promoted the .41 Action Express caliber and the guns ability to swap calibers.
The .41AE is really just an odd sized .40... but back before we had the .40. So back then no one knew anything about it.
Here is what I'd do if I had a position in the company. Introduce the Jericho 940. Promote the guns strong features and such... If you can make the 941, then the 940 should be no problem.
The Baby Eagle I looked at the other day had only 2 downsides.
One is the slide mounted safety. Get rid of that. CZ's have frame mounted safeties... why change? Go to the frame.
The other is the slide's finish. I really don't like Parkerizing. Make it a polished blue... powder baked... or stainless. Anything. I'm not sure what the finish is that it has, but it felt like a parkerized finish. Still. The gun felt great in the hand. Trigger was easy to reach and the grip fit the hand wonderfully. Very natural feeling... just like the CZ, but a hundred bucks less. Good option, but I'd rather drop the extra jack for the CZ.

If CDNN still has them and you have a friendly FFL you should be able to get one for about $300.00.

I had a friend in college that had one in full size in .40. It was a great shooter. Good trigger for a DA/SA, heavy but smooth. Very comfortable CZ shaped grip. The accuracy was actually pretty darn good, I think that is mostly because it pointed very naturally for most of us. I don't remember any malfunctions.

Quirks? They were 10 round magazines, but it was virtually impossible to get 10 in. Most of the guys could get 8, and I could get 9. :)

The only thing I regret about this gun is that I didn't purchase one when they first started showing up, I saw them all the time for around $250-$300. I bought a Ruger P91 instead. If I had to do it over, I probably would have bought the BE.
