The AK-46 vs the Bear

So this story was just too good. Unfortunately, the editors fixed the worst bits.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/8339549.stm

In the version up this morning it referred to the militants as carrying AK-46 rifles. This is unfortunate as I was hoping to finally have an answer to the question of whether an AK-47 is sufficient for defending against bear attacks.

As we all know, the AK-46 was the underpowered version the Soviets rejected due to it's inability to defend Partisans against the capitalist bears of Central Asia.

Sometimes you read a news article that just makes your head hurt...

Yes, it seems someone may have corrected them in that reference to an AK-46. It doesn't mention the type of weapon at all now.

Maybe that would have been the ideal way to deal with Taliban and flush Bin Ladin out a looooong time ago. Start airdropping bears! Bear finds cave--bear finds scrawny extremist/terrorist hiding in cave--bear eats terrorist, sleeps off indigestion--problem solved! :D Sounds way easier than the way it was done in Afghanistan early on.
