The 6th Commandment

Read in a post. The sixth commandment "Never point a gun at something you don't want to shoot". Could someone please write the other nine for me. My one and only commandment would be "Never shoot at anything you don't want to kill.
 
My dad always said

"Never pass up a good opportunity to keep your mouth shut."

I pay no attention to that.

"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story."

I follow that to the letter.

... is a link to Firearms Safety. There you will find a version (one of literally dozens) of the firearms safety mantra. The 'Commandment' you quote is a form of Rule II in that incarnation. There are many, many other versions; some have only 3 'rules', others have as many as 10 or more. Google 'rules of firearms safety' and take your pick.
 
As you asked for the 10 & the link is just 5, here is the whole set:

1. Always treat the gun as loaded.

2. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.

3. Always keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

4. Always keep the gun unloaded until you are ready to use it.

5. Never point the gun at anything you don't intend to destroy.

6. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

7. Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the gun you are using.

8. Always use proper Ammunition.

9. Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before loading and shooting.

10. Don't rely on the gun's safety to keep it from firing.

I tried teaching these to the kids in my 4-H shooting sports group ...... too much stuff to remember.

They did better with the Four Rules (Always, Never, Keep & Know), and The Golden Rule of Tool Use.
