Ive been learning about my 1911 alot more than i ever intended thanks to "issues" its been having,It's a Taurus so i should have known better, right?

I started off with feed issues at the 600 round mark, replaced that with a Wilson 47D mag and it went perfect for 200 rounds then started having extractor failures.
During those 200 rounds of perfectness i took the gun down completely for a thorough cleaning and in which i lost the firing pin safety plunger spring so in the process of replacing that i learned a lot in how the extractor works.

These extractor failures were simple,it would pull the empty case half way out and cycle leaving the case half chambered and then try and chamber a round from underneath.Ive learned to memorize failures so i can diagnose later, but this time i broke the gun down and examined the extractor from under the slide while still leaving it in place.
1. it was loose, meaning it would just move freely in its groove and had no force on a case.
2.It was buggered and banged up a bit.
I did a bunch of reading on line and im pretty sure i have the tension stuff down and have it perfectly tuned now.i also took a file to it,maybe a bad idea looking back. But that leads to a question later.
I mainly had to file out the main groove the case rim fits in,i could tell the metal wasn't the best quality as it was deforming.Following the online guides i kept the angles and required shapes and then polished it up a bit.
But i have a big concern as i feel removing material is not a good idea,or is it ok?
I will be replacing it in a about 2 weeks when i get paid again. But i want to carry the gun until then, and it does hand cycle perfectly.
I have 1 box of 50 ammo im gonna run threw it,long as it makes it threw all 50 with no issue i think it will be ok to carry.

Questions:
Does removing some material cause issues?
Besides the tension adjustment, when i get a new one it wont need any filing will it?Im impressed with my Wilson mag enough im gonna buy a Wilson extractor, unless you feel i should get something else?
I don't think this is an issue but ill ask anyhow, does anyone know if Taurus changed anything that would make me buy a Taurus extractor?I ran into that issue with the firing pin safety plunger and spring, they fit and work in the same place and such but they slightly changed the 2 parts so if you didnt replace both you had to use Taurus parts, idiots.

I feel bad making you guys read so much, but at least i cant be accused of not giving enough info.

1, Buy Jerry Kuhnhausens book on the Govt model. It will be the best $ you ever invested in your self and your pistol.
2, Buy a quality aftermarket extractor. There are many on the market.
3, Put #1 & #2 together & live happily ever after.

Sir;
Extractor tension should be so that when you slide a round up under it that it should feed in smoothly and hold it fairly firmly.
I remove the extractor and stone an angle on the botton edge of the recess behind the hook and then polish it with a stone. Also, you should check your ejector for length.
My PT1911 is a fine pistol - set up right! I like Taurus but you can have feeding problems anytime if things aren't right. You were smart to go with the Wilson/Rogers magazine!
