That rare gun you are looking for

I've recently started collecting rare guns and as my list gets longer, I am having trouble finding them for sale online.

Online stores are usually my go to when looking for particular guns, but it seems I've reached a point where searching online isn't cutting it. Currently my searches have be commemorative rifles. Finding a lot but just cant find places that are selling.

Plan on visiting a few gun shows hear in the next few months, hoping to find a few of what I'm looking for.

Are gun shows the way to go or is there another alternative?

You may just get lucky at a show sometime, I have in the past, but I do think that chances are better to search online these days especially with the auction sites out there. Unfortunately that can take a lot of patience because what you're looking for may only roll around once in a great while, trust me I know. Diligence and patience... PIA but it pays off.

Gun shows (IMHO :) ) have become an expensive alternative to online options.
I may "go for entertainment", but the deals of 20 years ago are few and far between.

In case you are not aware of it, you might try the Rock Island Auction Company. They currently have a four day auction underway. It started on Thursday. I think there are/was something like 6,700 auction items which are mostly firearms. They have rather frequent auctions.

I have never bought from their auction house, but they are a well respected and recognized gun auction house. I suspect it best to attend live to pre-inspect items of your interest. They are in Rock Island, IL.

I have several guns I want to get but being in kommie-forina (A.K.A. California) I won't be getting any of them. :(

I rarely find "collectible guns" at a gun show.....most of the time it's new guns any brick & mortar store carry plus an over abundance of used. The gun show exception would be shows like Tulsa or ones put on by collectors associations.

Rock Island Auction, James D. Julia, Cabela's gun Library, and others carry the better quality hard to find items.

Estate sales,,,

I don't have the money to collect vintage guns,,,
But if I did I would haunt the estate sale announcements.

I have a friend who runs a "tag sale" business,,,
They will go into a home, categorize everything and "tag" it with a price.

When she has a customer with guns,,,
She calls one of a few people on a phone list,,,
They get the first look at any and all firearms to be sold.

I've helped her research & price several very nice guns,,,
But so far there haven't been any of my grail guns show up.

I'm now on the list as I am the guy who taught her to shoot,,,
Some day there will be a S&W Model 45 revolver just waiting for me.

Shotgun News is one of your best bets for any listings of collectible estate gun auctions --- Antique gun shows is another.

BTW...Shotgun News is always a good read --- I've been a subscriber to it for at least 10 years.

I'm partial to double barrel Parker shotguns myself.

Deals are out there, I found several deal on local sale boards. My best deal was a original 1873 Trapdoor Carbine I picked up for $500.
